From its famous midnight recovery face serum to the ever-soothing hydration mask, and herbal extract toner, Kiehl’s is virtually a one-stop shop for your body care needs. We guess you are here because you don’t want to jump at it because someone said something about it. So, here you go, everything worth knowing about the body care brand, Kiehl’s.
What is Kiehl’s?
Kiehl’s is an Americancosmetic brand with a wide range of body care products, not just for the skin but the hair as well. Kiehl’s kicked it off back in 1851 as an apothecary in New York. To date, its starting location, third avenue, and 13th street remain the flagship store of the company. Though the company still retains the name Kiehl’s, it came under the ownership of L’Oréal Group in the year 2000 and now has over 250 retail outlets around the world.
The business was originally founded by Dodson Kiehl, however, Aaron Morse inherited the business in the 1950s. If you’ve ever entered a Kiehl’s store, you probably won’t miss a skeleton, named Mr bones. Aaron thought to make Kiehl’s more than just a skincare place, so he introduced a stack of biology textbooks and of course, Mr bones to encourage learning and intrigue kids.
What is Kiehl’s known for?
Kiehl’s products include a wide range of body care products such as face masks, moisturizers, face wash, eye creams, serums, and so on. What’s more, the company also deals in special lines for men, babies and even fragrances.
- Face care.
Kiehl’s face products include the very famous Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, a rich but light-weight moisturizer designed to hydrate your skin without a greasy look. Furthermore, you’ll also love facial fuel, a men’s skincare collection designed to address visible signs of wrinkles, fine lines, hyper-pigmentation, acne, and so on.
There’s also the ever-soothing Calendula and Aloe hydration mask, a lightweight gel, designed for skin moisturizing. Even more, the Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion, formulated with camphor, humectant sodium PCA, and menthol is a toner with a cooling effect.
- Eyecare.
If you are all about repairing the anti-ageing effect, Kiehl’s has the age defender eye repair. Designed to lift, firm up, and eliminate dark circles.
- Body care.
Here, you can find the ultimate strength hand salve, deluxe hand/body lotion, and body fuel deodorant/antiperspirant, containing caffeine, zinc, and vitamin C.
Kiehl’s ingredients.
The company claims that 95% of the ingredients contain natural material. Some ingredients include
- Jasmonic acid, secreted by plants and helps reduce wrinkles.
- Beech tree extract, which improves skin’s firmness
- Antioxidants vitamin C, vitamin E, and turmeric
- Coconut oil/cocoa butter.
- Other commonly used skincare ingredients include hyaluronic acid, caffeine, which are used to reduce puffiness around the eyes.
Cruelty-free claim.
The company claims to have a zero-tolerance for animal cruelty and as such does not test any of its products/ingredients on animals.
Cost.
I would say Kiehl’s products are at the mid-range. A bit expensive than your usual convenience or drugstore product, but very affordable than the department store product. The earlier mentioned Ultra facial cream goes for $30, while the Calendula herbal toner is just around $20. Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate is the most expensive at $78.
Is it right for you?
The choice is yours. Of course, there are other alternatives like Formulyst, Advanced Dermatology, or Carrot & Stick that are a bit streamlined, however, Kiehl’s has been around for a long time.
With awards like Elle’s 2018 International Beauty Award ( Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask), 2011 Allure Best of Beauty Award (Ultra Facial Cleanser, and many celebrities/model declaring their love for Kiehl’s products, it’s definitely worth a trial.
