Guide to Cost and Features of Handyman Insurance

There are no requirements for you to have any kind of insurance if you are a handyman. As a business owner, it is so important that you consider the overall risk and that you also make a decision as to what policy you feel comfortable taking out. General liability, business equipment, commercial auto and even worker’s compensation are just some of the few policies that you should be looking at.

General Liability

If you are a handyman, then you should be concerned about the protection of your client’s property. You should also be wary of their health and any pets that they have. If something was to go wrong or if someone gets injured, then you need to have the peace of mind knowing that they are going to be protected. General liability insurance will usually cover you for any work that has been completed by subcontractors, or even any damage that’s done to the properties that you work in. If you don’t end up completing any work that you promised you would then handyman cover will also protect you in this instance too. The biggest risk that handymen face are disability claims that result from the work that has been done, so make sure that you take this into account when choosing your policy. Your handyman insurance cost will largely depend on the type of cover you take out and how much protection you want.

Worker’s Compensation

If you take out worker’s compensation cover then this will cover, you for any medical bills and it will also cover your team at work too. This will give you some degree of protection if you are not able to work and it is ideal if you have a number of people who work for you. Worker’s compensation will cover you for any medical bills that you have and it can also pay for prescriptions, rehab, missed wages and more.

Commercial Auto Insurance

Commercial auto insurance will cover you for any vehicles that you have. It will also cover you for theft, damages and even accidents too. You should note that not every single handyman needs to have this kind of cover. If you have a car or truck that is registered as being a commercial vehicle then you should think about taking it out. If you have a personal car that you use then you’ll probably be fine, but do make sure that you have business use listed under the policy that you have.

Equipment Protection

As a handyman, you need your tools to do your job. This type of cover will protect you if you ever need to fix or even replace the tools that get lost or damaged as the result of theft or vandalism. You will need to pay a deductible for this but either way, you can rest assured knowing that you are covered and that you are going to have your tools paid for if they are lost, damaged or even stolen. There are some limits with this, so look into them before you start paying for any kind of policy.
