When Should You Quit Your Job?

Finding a new job or changing career altogether is not the most natural thing in life. It is the same fear that keeps most people in their current jobs. It takes time, planning, and strategy to reinvent your career and tell your employer you quit. So when is the right time to make this life-changing decision? This post will explain in details the signs that say it’s time to change your career or find a new job.

when should you quit your job

1. Your Promotion Passed-By

If you have been submitting your projects on time, working for long hours including weekends and responding to the needs of your job in an instant, then you should be the most suitable person for a promotion. If the management vacancy is filled by someone with less ability and experience, then its time you considered an exit from the job. This is a clear sign that your efforts and contributions are not being valued. As a result, you should find a different venture where your efforts will be appreciated.

2. You Are Given Unrelated Work

Before you signed up for a contract, you probably checked your job description and understood every clause of it. If you are the procurement officer, your job requires you to manage and administer the company’s acquisition program. You need to ensure the office supplies are from a reputable dealer. If for no reason things change, and your employer starts giving you more junior tasks like repeatedly sending you to get coffee, then you need to consider quitting your job. This is a sign that you are not being taken seriously. Such treatments are generally related to personality differences, performance, or something beyond your control.

3. You Are Dreading Work Before You Report

Are you depressed about work and you are not even there? Monday fevers are typical to most people, but if you are always dreading your work before you report to the office, then there is a problem. If it’s a project that’s draining you, then this may be temporary. However, if the thought of reporting to work gets you depressed even when you have little to do there, then it means you don’t like your job. Quitting should be on top of the list.

4. Multiple Layoffs

It is normal for a company to have layoffs. If your firm has experienced several rounds of layoffs and you are still standing, then this could be a sign to consider. Usually, rounds of layoffs are an indication that the company has failed to solve the problems that could be causing the layoffs. This means that you will be stuck with unrealistic loads of work to complete. You may end up bringing work home, which will make you mentally drained and more irritable.

5. Horrible Bosses

According to the Times Newspaper a good enterprise understands that success starts with the staff. If the employer fails to give the staff peace of mind, then failure is inevitable. Signs of a horrible boss is one that continually exercises poor judgment, focuses on the negatives, doesn’t get along with the subordinates, provide inconsistent and unconstructive feedback. You will also find it hard to do your job when there is ineffective management and unclear instructions.

With that said, you now know when you should quit. Your job or career should give you emotional, social, and financial comfort. If it gets to a point where you are not emotionally invested in your job, then you need to change your career.
