4 Things to Do When Visiting Taipei

Visiting the infamous city of Taipei, Taiwan’s capital, can be an exciting approach to travel. Taiwan is a unique destination because it’s a blend of Asian tradition and modernity. For this reason, it can offer a special experience like none other.

Whether you want to check out their famous bustling night markets or look for art lessons in Taipei, there’s truly something for everyone who visits. However, as with anywhere you travel, a little planning can go a long way. If you’re looking for things to add to your itinerary, here are some things to do when visiting Taipei.

Visit the Taipei 101

Perhaps one of the most famous aspects of Taipei is it’s cutting-edge modern architecture. The Taipei 101 is a skyscraper that for several years held the title of the world’s tallest building. The Taipei 101 is truly iconic, and a symbol of the city’s modernity and innovation.

Not only is it fun to take a photo in front of, but it is also exhilarating to go inside. A high-speed elevator carries you up to the top where you can enjoy the city’s stunning 360 views, while also exploring luxury malls. It’s truly an upscale Taipei experience, so make sure this is added to your list.

Eat at the Shilin Night Market

Taipei has some of the best street food on the planet, and if you want to go directly to the source, then you absolutely must indulge at the Shilin Night Market. It’s the perfect place to check out the local scene and taste some of the most incredible flavors you’ve ever encountered.

They have everything from infamous bubble tea to their world-renowned oyster omelets. While you’re at it, don’t forget stinky tofu. You might as well try out a few different dishes at different stands as you wander through the bustling labyrinth of gastronomic delights.

And before you think it’s simply about food, know that Shilin Night Market there’s so much more than just somewhere to eat— it’s a totally immersive cultural experience that you won’t want to miss.

Visit The Longshan Temple

Along with Taipei modernity also comes deep-rooted traditions and spirituality. Visiting the Longshan temple which is dedicated to the Buddhist goddess of mercy, is a serene atmosphere full of rituals and fascinating heritage. Here you won’t just see tourists, but rather a mix of locals and tourists coming together to seek spiritual awareness and peace. And although it may not be the same kind of architecture as their metropolitan skyscrapers, you’ll still marvel at its intricate architecture dating back to the 1700s.

See an Exhibit at The National Palace Museum

This Taipei Art Museum has one of the most extensive collections of Chinese art. Here you can find incredible history and artifacts spanning centuries and centuries. It’s truly an incredible experience if you’re hoping to gain more insight into the art and history of this region of Asia.
