If you have ever been to a traditional brick-and-mortar casino or seen one in movies and television shows, you would associate it with a massive complex containing thousands of slot machines and hundreds of table games. Throngs of people would be milling around, visiting entertainment lounges, bars, and restaurants. Indeed, this is what most casinos look like. However, satellite casinos are somewhat different.
Here is what you need to know about them:
Defining the concept
The terms mini and satellite are used interchangeably when describing these casinos. Mini is used in its context of being small, while satellite means something that is separated from or on the periphery of something else but is controlled by it. From this, we can deduce that a satellite casino belongs to a large organization but operates at a different location.
Origins
The mini-casino concept has its roots in Pennsylvania, which boasts among the top US online casinos within its borders. Pennsylvania is home to Parx, a sizeable casino operator that has played a substantial role in the Keystone State’s adoption of and transition to online gambling.
Parx is one of five casinos that received licenses from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) to operate mini-casinos. Development is underway, and the company is looking forward to a launch as soon as possible. The satellite casino will be in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, and serve the nearby city of Harrisburg. Parx’s main casino is in Bensalem, servicing the Philadelphia area.
What happens at a mini-casino?
Expect everything you would find at a regular brick-and-mortar casino when you visit a mini-casino. The only significant difference is the size of the complex. Satellite casinos should have slot machines and table games but on a far smaller scale. However, check the availability of table games before visiting a mini-casino as some operators might not be licensed to have them at a satellite casino venue.
On average, a satellite casino will have 300-700 slot machines and about 50 table games. As there are fewer games, the required floor space is much smaller than a regular casino. Even so, satellite casinos require more space than most businesses.
What is the idea?
The reasoning behind satellite casinos is that they cover territories between larger casinos. Therefore, potential patrons do not need to travel too far to enjoy some casino time. It is a welcome respite from VR sports games and a chance to get back to some semblance of normal after a challenging year of COVID-19 restrictions.
Why US state authorities approve satellite casinos
State authorities are not only thinking about people who like to enjoy life differently when making provisions for satellite casinos. They are also considering the increased revenue income that will supplement budgetary resources.
