Meadowlands: Where Horse Racing and Entertainment Collide

July 8, 2019

If you’re looking to enjoy an action-packed trip to New Jersey you would be well-advised to head to East Rutherford.

Situated in Bergen County, the borough is home to the Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment complex which is located close to the Hackensack River.

The venue hosts a wide variety of events throughout the course of the year. Read on as we look at some of our favourites.

Listen to Sinatra’s timeless classics

Spend your Borgata bonus code winnings by going back in time during July to enjoy a night of Frank Sinatra swing music.

Jessa Posa is one of the top Sinatra impersonators in the United States, regularly performing in front of packed-out crowds.

His credits include playing Sinatra at BB King’s in Times Square NYC in ‘Party with the Rat Pack’ and the off-Broadway production of ‘Sinatra & Friends’.

With top class music and a superb buffet dinner, this is a great way to enjoy a night at the Meadowlands complex.

Rock the lobster at the Seafood Festival

Now in its sixth year, the annual Food Truck Seafood Festival is a fantastic showcase of some of New Jersey’s finest seafood.

Enjoy great seafood like shrimp, lobster and more while watching the eliminations for the prestigious Hambletonian Oaks.

Vendors include All Surf No Turf, Angry Archie’s and Star of the Sea Seafood, all of whom are hugely popular outlets in the area.

With the chance to win a $500 prize for winning a competition to produce the best seafood & clam chowder, this is a summer food event not to be missed.

Watch harness racing’s biggest day

Dubbed ‘Harness Racing’s Greatest Day’, Hambletonian Day features the Hambletonian Heats & Final and Hambletonian Oaks Final.

The Hambletonian dates back to 1926 and was staged at various venues before settling at Meadowlands in 1981.

Held on the first Saturday in August and worth a cool $1 million, the race is the first event in the Triple Crown of Harness Racing for Trotters and is a hugely thrilling spectacle.

The event has something for all the family, with top class racing, live music, rides and games for children and superb giveaways.

Flat track bikes deliver thrills and spills

One of the most eagerly anticipated events of the season, the Meadowlands Mile delivers thrills and spills in one of America’s most extreme sports.

American Flat Track (AFT) is widely regarded as the pinnacle of dirt track motorcycle racing in the world, with stars like Kenny Roberts and Eddie Lawson etching their names into sporting folklore.

The event, held during September, is the final one in the AFT schedule and delivers heart-stopping wheel-to-wheel action at speeds of up to 130mph.

With plenty of off-track opportunities to get up close to the riders and their bikes, this is a fun day out for all the family.

United Kingdom: All Roads Lead North

July 8, 2019

Visitors considering taking a holiday in the United Kingdom often make London or the south coast their first and only port of call.

However, the UK has plenty of other brilliant places to visit, particularly if you head towards the northern end of the country.

With vibrant cities, seaside towns and stunning areas of natural beauty, there is something to suit every taste ‘up north’.

With the cost of living also much cheaper the further you travel away from the south of the country, it is possible to enjoy short breaks or longer visits at surprisingly economical rates.

Read on as we look at some of our favourite places to visit in the north of the UK.

Blackpool

Blackpool has had a roller-coaster ride as a holiday resort – a rather ironic fact given that the town contains the highly acclaimed Pleasure Beach theme park!

Its reputation suffered massively during the 1980s and 90s, becoming more famous for attracting rowdy stag and hen parties than families.

However, Blackpool has bounced back in style since the turn of the century, with local authorities pumping millions of pounds into regenerating the town.

From playing games at the resort’s casino venues, watching superb live entertainment in one of the numerous show bars or enjoying the miles of beaches, Blackpool is back and it’s back with a bang.

Lake District

Travel even further north to Cumbria to enjoy the natural splendour of the stunningly beautiful Lake District.

Lake Windermere is the largest natural body of water in England and its shores have numerous locations where you can base yourself to explore the area.

Fans of water sports will in their element in the Lake District, with the area providing plenty of opportunities to try water-skiing, kayaking and more.

Small towns like Bowness and Ambleside are well worth checking out, with each offering superb accommodation, great local beers, excellent dining options and a relaxing vibe.

Edinburgh

Whether you’re planning a weekend away or a longer stay, Edinburgh’s mix of history and modern makes it a perfect place for a vacation.

Guided bus tours are a great way to visit historic places like the Scottish Parliament, St Giles’ Cathedral and the National Museum of Scotland.

Alternatively, head out on foot along Princes Street or George Street to discover Edinburgh’s fine selection of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants.

With live music venues, great theatres, comedy clubs and top class sporting action, you will never be short of something to do in Edinburgh.

Sal is the most popular island for many holidaymakers, with its stunning sandy beaches giving sun lovers plenty of opportunity to top up their tan.

Neighbouring Boa Vista’s popularity is very much on the rise, with many people using winnings from online casino bonus codes to book into brand new ‘palace’ style hotels around the island.

Featuring volcanic landscapes, beautiful beaches, enchanting islands and more, Nicaragua remains something of a hidden travel gem.

Bordered on one side by the Pacific Ocean and on the other by the Caribbean Sea, the country is an affordable option for people looking for somewhere a little different to visit.

Certain areas of Nicaragua remain undeveloped, so head off the beaten track to see stunning mountains, ancient ruins and untouched rainforests.

Lanzarote

Lanzarote’s reputation suffered massively during the package holiday boom, but its refusal to conform to stereotypes has seen it bounce back in style.

There are three main resorts on the island – Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca – each with their own unique charm and character.

Puerto del Carmen is undoubtedly the most popular place in Lanzarote, with its vast stretch of golden beaches renowned for their cleanliness.

If a relaxing vacation is more your thing, check out peaceful Puerto Calero. Built around a luxury marina, this exclusive retreat is the perfect place to unwind and recharge your batteries.

Best Tips for Conquering Airports with Large Families

June 22, 2019

Whether you have several kids you need to keep an eye on or you have multiple sets of parents travelling with all their children for one big, family holiday, heading to an airport with a group of children can seem quite intimidating. Here are some tips to help you manage your time there.

Practice Basic Crowd Safety

Just because an airport is a finite space does not mean that your children will not be able to run off and get lost. Therefore, you need to make sure that you know for definite that they are able to keep themselves safe even when you do not have your eyes on them.

Make sure that each child has a buddy and drill into them the importance of sticking together. You should also arrange a meeting place in case anyone becomes separated. If your children are old enough to have their own mobile phones, make sure that everyone in the group has each other’s numbers and all phones are fully charged and ready to go. It would be frustrating for all involved if you missed your plane simply because a member of your family got lost. Stick together and make sure there is a game-plan in place if you end up separated.

Drive Yourselves to the Airport

The more heads you have, the more expensive it will be to just get to the airport in the first place. Bus shuttles and express trains are extremely convenient but they can be expensive when you have a group which is easily fifteen heads or more. They can also cost a lot of money if you are heading to one of the London airports like Luton. Instead of forking out huge amounts for shuttle transport or hiring a minibus taxi, why not just take your own car to make use of the official Luton Airport parking services?

You can park at Luton Airport cheap thanks to Luton Parking. You prepay for your parking space online, then all you need to do is find your designated parking space and head into the terminal. There are also meet and greet services where you head into the drop-off zone and hand over your keys to a driver who takes your car to a secure compound during your holiday. If you are on the hunt for a solution which is minimal fuss for you, you should definitely look into this style of airport parking for you and your family.

Bring Your Own Snacks

It is no secret that airport food is very expensive, whether you are sitting down in a restaurant or picking up something to go. If you were to buy food for everyone in your party in this way, it would add up to some serious money spent. Instead, you should definitely think about bringing your own snacks to feed everyone with.

Not only will this allow you to check that everything is healthy and meets any dietary requirements your family might have, but it will also save you quite a bit of money. Set aside time the day before you go away to make sure that you have enough time to go to the shops to buy snacks and make them up if you need.

Another great idea is to make sure that every member of the travelling party has their own reusable water bottle. Take them through security empty and then fill them up on the other side from a tap. There should be plenty of places you can get some drinking water once you are airside. By using this, you can make sure that everyone in your family can keep themselves hydrated no matter how long you may end up delayed in the airport.

Dress Comfy

If you are travelling with very little children, consider dressing them in pyjamas or a smart onesie for the journey through the airport. Not only will it make them easier to spot in a crowd, but it also means that you know that they will be comfy no matter how long they are delayed.

You should also make sure that you have a change of clothes for each child your carry-on. If your child spills something down themselves early into the journey, they are likely to become grumpy if they have to stay grumpy and sticky for the rest of it. Err on the safe side, and make sure that you have something fresh they can slip on if needs be.

If you follow these handy tips, you will hopefully find any trip to an airport with a large family a lot easier. Trying to manage so many people at once can be difficult and adding children into the mix can be even more of a challenge. However, if you plan it sensibly, there is no reason why you cannot get through the airport with as little hassle as possible.

Hotel Safety Tips You Need to Consider

May 17, 2019

For many people, sleeping in a place which is not their home is uncomfortable. Others feel excited especially if they are staying in an exquisite hotel. Regardless of how you feel when you decide to book a hotel, you need to ensure your safety. These are some tips to consider.

Do not stay on the ground floor

Before you reserve a hotel room, you need to confirm if your room is on the ground floor or not. Most break-ins happen on that floor. You need a place which is high enough to deter potential intruders, but not so high that during emergency cases when you have to use the stairs it will be a problem.

Keep your bags close

While waiting for your turn at the front desk, you need to ensure the safety of your luggage. You need to keep it close or pass it on to someone who works for the hotel. Given how busy the lobby is at times, you could end up losing your bags.

Make sure no one knows your room

It is usually a policy for hotels to not inform anyone about the room number unless permitted by the guests themselves. It is for the security of everyone staying in the room. For instance, your key has your room number on it, and if someone else saw it when the front desk staff handed it to you, it is possible to request a different room as you now consider the room compromised. The same thing can happen if someone says the room number out loud.

Check the locks first

Usually, the valet will accompany you into the room. Make sure that you check the locks first before you ask the valet to leave. If there is a problem, you need to ask for someone to immediately fix it by relaying the message to the valet or request a different room.

Use the door wedge

Do not rely on the locks on your door alone. For further security, you need to use the door wedge. It is to ensure that no one else can access your room. Sometimes, crooks can have access to spare keys given their relationship with some people working for the hotel.

Take your valuables when you leave

Make sure that you do not leave anything valuable in your room. Your gadgets and personal documents like passport need to be with you at all times. Your room could end up getting compromised especially if you asked the cleaners to come over and make the bed. If the place has a vault, you can use it to keep your valuables. The hotel usually does not cover the payment for lost items inside the room, but they will do if you kept the things inside the vault.

Now that you know these hotel safety tips, you have nothing to worry about. You can check out the best hotels around Oxford now and finalise your booking. With top hotels in the area, safety is not an issue.

There are many places that one could visit in Asia, but it is important to slow down and choose just a few areas in order to take in all the wonders that this part of the world has to offer. Southeast Asia is a name that refers to a sub-region of Asia that is bordered on both sides by ocean. To the West, you have the Indian Ocean, while to the East there’s the Pacific Ocean. With that said, here are a few places that should be on anybody’s list of locations to visit.

Bagan

Bagan is considered an archeological paradise. It is one of those hidden gems that lies off the travelled path. The site is home to around 2000 temples of different shapes. It is believed that the structures where raised between the 9th and 13th century and the site receives around one million tourists per year. This is a wonderful location that people traveling around Southeast Asia should not miss.

You can travel around the area of Bagan with a bicycle or hire a tuk-tuk, which is a good idea because the archeological site covers an area of 65 square kilometers. After an earthquake in 1975, the structures suffered a bit and there was a plan to restore some of the damaged structures.

Macau

Macau is a place is Asia where the West meets the East and form a beautiful mixture of cultures. The city is known to be the gaming capital of Asia. There is a large variety of amazing casinos to be found here, including the iconic Casino Lisboa, which also represents a symbol of the spirit of Macau. With its lotus shaped form, the structure is truly a sight to behold and also used as a guiding landmark for Macau’s citizens.

When it comes to visiting Macau, most people go there with the purpose of gambling and visiting the many beautiful casinos found there. However, besides the many casinos, there are also many other places of interest in the city. An example could be the ruins of St. Paul, a structure built in the 17th century and was eventually destroyed by fire. What remains is only the facade of the former structure which acts as a kind of altar to the city.

Since the spirit of Macau is all about gambling, people have the option of trying out few casino games found on Gametwist Online Casino, while at the same time visiting other places of interest around the city. This online casino can offer you the same experience as the one would have in one of the casinos found in Macau, but you have the option of choosing where to play them. After that, you can say that you have participated in the gambling spirit of Macau.

Halong Bay

The number one tourist destination in Vietnam. Halong Bay has received a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997. It is truly a unique place in the world and it is also known as the Bay of Descending Dragons. Dragons play an important role in Vietnamese culture. There is a story that a dragon and her offspring defended the vietnamese from invaders. The dragon sprayed fire with emeralds or jades and after many years they formed the eroded towers surrounding the area.

The rocky formations are covered by forests and there are many activities that one could partake in. Rock climbing is one of them, as well as taking a cruise around the Bay. The best time to visit Halong Bay and Vietnam in general is between March to May or September to November, which are times when one could avoid the extreme heat. Winter can also be cloudy and cool and may not make such a great experience.

Singapore

Singapore can be seen as a melting pot of cultures and different demographics as well as a large variety of different architecture. It can be seen as the number one travel destination in Asia. In 2018 this island nation has been voted as one of the safest cities in the world with a very low crime rate. Among the beautiful urban area, there is also a large variety of beautiful greenery present in the city.

A wonderful attraction of the city would be the Garden by the Bay opposite from the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Most people visit the garden to see the Supertree Grove. The trees have a high that ranges between 25 and 50 meters. Between two of the largest Supertrees there is a walkway where people can take in a panoramic view of the garden.

Final Word

Southeast Asia is truly one of the most amazing places on Earth that people can visit. Aside from the destinations mentioned above, you can be sure that there are many more places that are as beautiful and interesting. For a person who was born in the west, visiting just one of the places mentioned can truly be a life changing experience.

Tatiana Kukanova Regan on Her Favorite Aspects of Being a Digital Nomad

January 18, 2019

My good friend Tatiana Kukanova Regan went traveling just after her 21st birthday and by the time that she was 22 she decided that this would be her new way of life, much to the surprise of many, including myself. Many thought that she would fail but here we are 5 years on and she has forged quite the career for herself. The lifestyle which Tatiana Kukanova Regan is living is called digital nomadism and it is a lifestyle which she absolutely adores. I spoke with Tatiana last week on Skype and I asked her what it was that she loves most about this kind of lifestyle, here is what she had to say.

Location Freedom

Unsurprisingly Tatiana started off by telling me that the greatest reason why she loves this lifestyle is because she can work from just about anywhere in the world. As long as she has her laptop and an internet connection she can work in Bali, in Rio, in Israel or in Portugal and it would make no difference at all to her. Throughout her career as a digital nomad she has worked and traveled through almost 30 countries, exploring new cultures and ways of life as she goes. It is fairly easy to see why this would be the greatest benefit of such a lifestyle.

When She Wants

It is not just freedom of location which Tatiana Kukanova Regan enjoys but also the freedom to work whenever she wants. For most of us working Monday to Friday 9-5 this is something which we can all agree would be beautiful and for Tatiana she loves nothing more than working from 9pm-3am, such is the lifestyle that she leads. What this means is that she gets to work on her own terms, when it suits her and nobody else. She of course has deadlines when she is working with clients but even within that timeframe she can work at any time of the day that she so wishes. Furthermore she tells me that she loves nothing more than working in her pajamas straight from her bed, something we would all love to have the luxury of doing.

Cool People

I asked Tatiana how she copes with not speaking to co-workers each day and having the gossip with them and she did concede that it was something which she missed a lot when she was first starting out with this lifestyle. In order to counteract this she decided to work in co-working spots and use the internet to meet people who had a similar lifestyle to her. During the years she tells me that she has met some super cool people and some friends for life, which helped to fill the void left by the lack of co-workers in her job.

Do you think you would like a lifestyle such as Tatiana Kukanova Regan? If so let us know what you like most about it in the comments below.
