John Robert Powers Tips on Launching Your Modeling Career on Social Media

January 18, 2019

It seems that everyone these days considers themselves a model and evidence of this can be seen all over social media and even on the street as people pose for that perfect selfie. Whilst the modeling industry may have more competition because of this, social media can give you the perfect chance to launch your very own modeling career. To get some tips on this we spoke to the team at the John Robert Powers talent agency, a business which was launched by the global star John Robert Powers Chicago-based actor almost 100 years ago. The agency has boasted such names as Betty Ford and Grace Kelly, so it is fair to say that they know what they are talking about.

Picking a Niche

With so many people wanting to be a model though the use of social media it is important that you find a way in which you can stand out from the crowd. In order to do this effectively you need to find your own style and your own niche which will attract a more loyal following, and help you to launch your name. Think about the kind of fashion you like most and then push forward with that. Alternatively consider which part of your body will be the talking point, if you have great lips for example then be sure to prioritize those close up shots when it comes to your content. This is not to say that you should be restricted to one niche of course but laying heavy focus on one aspect can help to boost your profile.

Engagement

In order to grow on social media you must engage with the followers who are speaking to you and liking your shots. Every couple of days it makes sense to review your posts and answer any questions or give thanks for compliments. Remember that this is a community and if you wish to grow within it, you must be a part of it.

Bold

There is nothing wrong at all with being bold on social media and calling out various fashion labels or stores, in the hope that they pick you up. Models were once hired based on their particular look and the reason for this was in order to push forward a certain image which a label wants, as well as them trying to appeal to their audience. If you already have a strong public appeal because of the following that you have created on your social media account, you will be forcing the hand of the fashion label. Start with reviews of brands and stores, and don’t be afraid to contact them directly and see if they would like to form a partnership with you. Remember that the worst that they can do is to say no, and if they do you can simply move on.

Go to auditions by all means but don’t underestimate the power which social media can have on your career.

Tips on Finding Your Perfect Prom Necklace

November 1, 2018

When looking for their prom dresses, girls will often shop for their jewelry at the same time. Girls are looking for pieces that will stand out and make them feel unique and beautiful, which is why it can be nerve-wracking to buy your prom jewelry (as well as your prom dress). If you don’t have a heavily detailed neckline on your dress or are wearing a plunging neckline, you’ll probably want to purchase a necklace to accentuate your neck and draw attention to your face–but how to choose?

When you’re looking for a necklace to match your prom dress, consider these tips:

Cost

When it comes to necklaces, the sky’s the limit with the price. Even a simple necklace can end up costing a fortune if it’s made with real gems. Even costume jewelry can set you back away if you’re not careful. When shopping for your prom necklace, keep in mind how much you’re looking to spend before you go shopping. Just like how you can find some gorgeous but cheap prom dresses, you can also find beautiful necklaces that won’t cost as much as your dress.

The dress’ style

The cut of your dress should heavily influence what kind of necklace you buy to go with it. For example, if you have a crew neckline or halter neckline, pair it with a statement necklace or shorter necklace that hits your collarbones. If you have a strapless dress, pair it with a choker to better break up space. JJ’s House designer Jessica suggests looking at images online of styles that you may like and bringing that with your jewelry shopping.

“While you may not be able to get that exact necklace, if you have a few ideas you’ll be able to narrow your search better. Just be sure you can return the necklaces if they don’t work,” she says.

Dress embellishments

If you have a ton of details in your dress like embroidery, rhinestones, or illusion panels, you’ll want to keep your jewelry simple so that it doesn’t confuse the outfit visually by demanding too much attention. Minimalist necklaces are very popular these days, which means it won’t be hard to find a delicate, subtle necklace to pair with your eye-catching dress.

Color

Even if you want your jewelry to pop, you don’t want it to clash. If you want some color in your jewelry, make sure that it complements your prom dress by using a color wheel. If your necklace only has rhinestones but your dress also has rhinestones, make sure that they are in the same shade: crystal with crystal, black with black, etc.

Your style

Don’t let yourself get caught up in the bustle of prom and forget your own style. You still want to recognize yourself in those photos after the big day is over. Ultimately, your style should be reflected in your dress style and in your necklace style. This means choosing a necklace that speaks to you and something that you may even want to wear once prom is over.

Clarifying Misconceptions about Fingerprint Jewellery

October 9, 2018

For many people, a fingerprint bracelet is a novel idea. They know about customised jewellery, but they don’t see that it is possible to take a fingerprint and place it on the jewellery. Unfortunately, people also form opinions about this jewellery without knowing the truth behind it. Here are some ideas about a fingerprint bracelet that are untrue and the truth behind them.

Fingerprint jewellery is expensive

In a way, this is true. Before you say no to this jewellery, you need to know that any other customised jewellery also has the same price tag, or even more. The reason why it is expensive is the uniqueness of the piece. There is nothing else in the world that is similar to what you have. Fingerprints are unique, and no two people could have the same fingerprints. Therefore, if you are the only person wearing that bracelet, why don’t you spend money on it? Besides, you have a lot of pieces to choose from, so there is no need to spend a lot on the most expensive part.

Ready-made fingerprint jewellery is all right

You may find fingerprint jewellery that you need not customise. It seems weird because it is. The idea of having this type of jewellery is for you to give your fingerprint as the basis for making the mould of the jewellery. Buying a ready-made piece does not make sense since the fingerprint is not yours or of anyone you love. The said piece might be cheaper than the customised version, but you don’t want a stranger’s fingerprints on you wherever you go.

It takes quite some time for the jeweller to complete the piece

Customised jewellery, in general, takes time to complete. Jewellers need to be careful in every detail to avoid mistakes. They also want the piece to look fantastic once it is finished. Therefore, you need to be patient when you choose this piece. Besides, it is not like other customised pieces where you only select the designs and the details and approve the final version. For this piece, you need to submit a fingerprint and wait until they’ve finished with the mould before they can start working on the jewellery.

Nevertheless, it only takes three weeks at most to finish the piece. If you are planning to use it soon, you can order in advance to avoid potential problems. You can also ask the store in advance if they can finish the piece on or before the date when you are planning to use it. If they can’t promise you anything, look for other options. You might need to pay more, but it could still be worth it.

Now that you understand the truth behind this piece of jewellery, it is time to consider buying it. Look at the sample pieces of jewellery before making a decision. Compare the cost from one store to another and imagine how the piece would look to the person wearing it, whether it is you or someone else.

3 Things To Invest in When You Are in Business

September 23, 2018

When you are in the business of closing deals and finding new clients, your appearance is important. It is about creating an image that is powerful, reliable, and impressive. For other people to take you and your ideas seriously, you need more than just eye contact and good posture.

When you are in the business of dealing with people and closing contracts, you need to be able to attract the right kind of attention. Elements of your appearance and lifestyle are broken down for people to sift through. How do you go around? Where do you shop? What do you eat? These questions might be like a matter of taste and preference, but for people to take you and your ideas seriously, you need to create an image that is impressive, powerful, and reliable.

There are three things you can invest in early in your career to set up this image:

  1. A suit

The suit has a history with class and professionalism. The kind of outfit you wear is another way for potential business partners to spot you among the crowd. It is easy to spot someone who casually bought their suit in the ready-made section of the department store. It is just as easy to spot someone who covers themselves in expensive branded clothes based on trends.

Find a bespoke tailor and distinguish yourself. A bespoke suit fits you like a glove, it accommodates your body type and highlights your assets. At the same time a bespoke suit, while expensive, is not tasteless. It shows your appreciation for artistry and quality over brand names and price tags.

  1. A Watch

A good watch is an investment. The right model increases value over time instead of depreciating. It is an accessory that supplements your formal wear or acts as a showpiece when you decide to dress down. There are many watch enthusiasts in the business world, despite the development of cell phones.

A watch is the traditional male equivalent of jewellery, and no matter what kind of band: leather, stainless steel, or gold, they are considered tasteful. With the many different types of brands and signature models, your watch selection is a way for you to express yourself. The way you select your watch is also another way for people to interpret the kind of person you are.

  1. A Car

Your car is another way for you to express yourself. The brand, the model, and the colour are all contributing factors to how people judge you. Now, investing in a car should only be done when you need it, especially if you are new to the business. If not, it isn’t the best way to showcase good decision making.

Do your research well, select a car that shows your values. Eco-friendly? All-terrain drive? Safety mechanisms? Your clients will see what kind of person you are.

These three items can be something you gift yourself after a major accomplishment, and their selection can contribute to the kind of clients and partners you get.

Easy Up-Do Hairstyles On the Go You Should Know

August 11, 2018

There are many fresh and pretty hairstyles for girls from designers around the web. Some looks can be done in two a few moments before the bus comes, others are ideal for events when you have a little longer period. Here are some easy up-do hairstyles on the go you should know

1. The quadruple twist hairstyle

This style is good for straight curly and wavy hair types. It can be done for short, long and medium lengths. The hair to be done with this style should be wet by using a spray bottle.

All that you need to do this style is the spray bottle of water, little ponytail holder, fine-tooth hair comb, hair clip to section hair, hair gel or light styling cream, and the mini-butterfly clips.

How to do it

Aspect hair in the centre with a fine-tooth hair comb, and collects an area of hair on one part of the part, from the part to the external brow. Split this area in 50 per cent, with one 50 per cent near the part and one 50 per cent away from it. Clip the 50 per cent nearest the part out of the way. Keep the staying 50 per cent and begin rotating it on an angled direction toward the part. Perspective strongly, fathering extra hair as you twist, but not so firmly that it affects. Perspective until you arrive at the part, then secures the end with a ponytail holder, allowing excess hair hang down

After this, unclip the half-section nearest the part and water again. Using the same method, twist this area strongly towards the part. Secure with a ponytail holder.

Do it again on the other part of the part to make two more twists, for a complete of four. Connect fairly mini-butterfly segments to the ponytail holder on each twist. Rub a pea-sized quantity of gel or mild styling cream between your hands and scrunch the waves to complete.

2. Micro-braid hairstyle for girls

This hairstyle is good for straight and wavy hair types. It can be done well to medium and long hair lengths. The hair to be done this style should be damp. To successfully do this style, you’ll need a brush, one hairband, rat-tail hair comb, two obvious elastics.

How to do it

Take her hair back into a primary part ponytail. Take a little, yet the lengthy area of hair from the top of the ponytail, cover it around the rubber band and secure it with bobby pins. Separate the hair into three segments and add a micro-braid into the two external segments. To add a micro-braid, piece off a little part of one area and simply braid it.

When you begin your last braid, begin with the centre area (the one without a micro-braid) and pull external. This way, your micro-braids will lie on the outside, so they are visible. Once you complete the braid, secure with a ponytail holder.

These are some easy up-do hairstyles on the go you should know today for you. Do not hesitate, try them today.

What’s Hot? Top Celebrity Outfits Of The Year

August 11, 2018

Whatever your current wardrobe looks like, and whatever trends are currently on your hot list, there’s one thing that’s for certain – this year’s celebrity fashion statements will definitely have an impact on your style this year.

We can all agree that 2017 was a big year for fashion trends, celebrity or otherwise, but this year most of us are looking for something a little bit different from the t-shirt under slip dresses, white boots, and plunging necklines of last year. There’s nothing wrong with them, we just need a bit of a change this year, wouldn’t you agree?

The good news is, the fashion industry never really gives us to much time and opportunity to get bored. There’s always something new coming along the pipeline. This year hasn’t been any different in this regard. We have seen plenty of new takes on timeless favorites as well as quite a few much-needed shakeups in the wardrobe department.

To show you just what we mean, for example, take the case of Yara Shahidi’s appearance in a pair of absolutely stunning blue boots. Back in 2017, everyone was falling over each other in a rush to get their hands on a pair of white boots that you couldn’t really wear more than a couple of times before scuffing. Well, we can thankfully say goodbye to that, as bright boots are a whole lot more wearable, while still retaining their ability to dazzle. A great step forward, if you’ll ask any boot fans out there.

Should you be one of those fashion-forward fans that love being the first to adopt a hot trend, then let’s take a look at what the celebrities of the world will be wearing this year, and maybe you can pick up on a couple of pointers to set you ahead of the crowd!

Varsity Sweaters

We’re all aware that varsity jackets have been a thing for a while now, but what about varsity sweaters? It seems that this take on the varsity lifestyle trend is picking up the pace, as we saw when Jennifer Lopez took to the streets in her varsity duster paired with a monogrammed Valentino bag and Timberland boots.

Pastels

Everybody loves pastels, whether we like to admit it or not. Kim Kardashian seems not to mind the haters, though, as she’s been spotted rocking full head-to-toe pastel getups, most of them taken from her hubby’s Yeezy collection. Sounds like a plan.

Shearling

Fur is taking a downturn in popularity, but shearling seems to be coming up strong to take its place. You will have seen it on a number of leather and denim jacket accents, as well as in the example of Gigi Hadid’s full-on shearling coat.

Wide-Leg Joggers

Comfy trends are the literal blessings of the fashion world, and it doesn’t get much comfier than wide-leg joggers. We’ve had joggers in our closets for a while now, but the wider fit is only now getting some recognition, as we saw it being rocked by Hailey Baldwin paired with a bikini top and matching pink hair.
