Which Shoes Should I Use for My Workouts?

April 15, 2020

Working out is an important part of most people’s lifestyles, and that means that you need the right kind of clothing to handle it properly. It’s fairly easy to get hold of regular clothes that are comfortable enough to wear during your exercise routines, but shoes can make it difficult, especially if you switch between a lot of workout techniques and aren’t just doing the same thing over and over again.

Each kind of exercise works best with a different style of shoe: here are some of the most notable examples.

Running/Gym Shoes

Running shoes are the easiest type to find. Since they’re purpose-built for running, they’re generally all comfortable and cushioned, with some extra flexibility and strength compared to regular footwear. The only choice you might have to make it how breathable they are, since breathability helps in hot conditions but might be a problem in cooler ones. In fact, a lot of them work perfectly as gym shoes too, so you don’t need to go for anything fancy – just make sure you get the right size and shape for your feet.

Remember that this applies to treadmills, too, with the only difference being that weather isn’t as much of a factor. If you’re only planning to run indoors, you won’t need something like waterproofing, for example. The shoes also change depending on where you’re running: if you’re taking a natural trail, you’ll want different shoes for working out compared to somebody who only keeps to paved paths.

Jumping Rope

When you’re jumping rope, shoes need to protect you from repeated impacts with the ground, whether you’re indoors or outdoors. Shoe Adviser has quite a few good options they’ve reviewed for this particular activity. High padding is always essential here, as well as a strong outsole that can hold the bottom of the shoe together for much longer. Good grip can also help you keep your balance when you’re using the jumping rope shoes indoors on a smooth surface, since you’ll be less likely to fall over if you land in the wrong way or get tangled in the rope.

Lifting Weights (on your feet)

Weights don’t usually require you to move around a lot, but heavier weights can become much easier to handle if you’re able to balance properly. Because of that, it’s often a good idea to buy shoes that have an excellent gripping surface and outsole, since this stops your leg from slipping and makes sure that your feet always go exactly where they’re supposed to. Shoes for working out with weights should probably also be more durable, since you’re adding a lot of weight to your body and generally concentrating it all on your feet.

Lifting Weights (on a bench)

If you’re lifting a single large barbell weight during a bench press session, you might think that shoes aren’t too important, since you’ll be lying on your back. However, the grip is also important here, too: you’ll be using your feet to keep you in the right place and make sure that your form is good, so a smooth surface that can’t grip properly becomes really useful for safety reasons.

It can also make it easier to pull yourself off the bench if something goes wrong and you need to get out of the way of the weight, although this will only happen if you’re not using the equipment safely.

Boxing, Dance and High-Impact Exercise

Any workout that involves a lot of movement, varied step pressure and rapid changes in your stance needs gym shoes to match. Always go for maximum cushioning and durability if possible, since you want your shoes to protect you and keep you on your toes for longer. Don’t forget that flexibility plays a big role here, too: stiff shoes will get much harder to move in.

Other Exercises?

There are hundreds of ways to exercise, and it’s impossible to tell what each person will consider to be the ‘best’ kind of shoe for their workout routine. If you want the best shoes for working out, you’ll have to research your options more thoroughly. Take a look at sites like Shoe Adviser to get an idea of what you can find on the internet, as well as some examples of good shoes that people are already using for various activities or situations: you never know what you’ll find!

3 Ways To Embrace Your New Body After Having A Baby

April 14, 2020

While women are bombarded every day with images of models and celebrities that they will likely never be able to attain themselves, what can really wreak havoc with a woman’s self-confidence is the body she has right after delivering a baby.

However, feeling a drop in your confidence in your body doesn’t have to happen after having a baby. Even if you’re not at a size, ability, or health that you want, you can find ways to be happy with the body you have now and learn to love yourself regardless of what you look like right now.

To help you with this, here are three ways to embrace your new body after having a baby.

Strive For Patience

The body you have right after having your baby won’t be the same body you’ll have in just a few weeks or months after delivery. But despite this, many women become over-anxious to have their bodies “bounce back” to look like a celebrity’s. However, most women will find that their bodies change slowly in the weeks and months after having a baby.

Because of this, Kaitlin Standford, a contributor to The Bump, advises that you try to strive for patience while you’re recovering, figuring things out with your newborn, and trying to find your new normal. By being patient, you’ll be able to appreciate your body at every phase.

Find Self-Worth In Something Other Than Your Body

Although it can feel nice to love the body you have, this shouldn’t be the only thing in your life that gives you self confidence. So if you’re struggling with this, you might want to find something else in your life that can give you confidence.

According to Lauren Gibbons, a contributor to Mother.ly, things like your skills, abilities, and relationships can all help you to have self-worth that comes from or is tied to something that isn’t reflective of how your body looks. And at a time where your body might be something that you don’t completely recognize, having self-worth in these other areas can be very helpful.

Appreciate What Your Body Just Accomplished

Sometimes, it takes spending a while thinking about all that your body has gone through and accomplished in the last few months to get you really appreciating just how amazing your body truly is, regardless of its size.

Janette Siva Fishman, a contributor to Parents.com, writes that having stretch marks, varicose veins, and extra weight can serve as a reminder that your body was able to conceive a baby, carry that baby, and keep both you and your little one healthy for months and months.

If your postpartum body is causing you to have some emotional or mental strife, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you learn to embrace this new version of yourself.

Top 6 Benefits of Sleep

April 11, 2020

C:\Users\Shruti\Desktop\19 march\April\9 April\images\1.jpg

Sleep has so many benefits and misconceptions to abound; many people believe that it is impossible to catch up on sleep that you lost by sleeping another time. Well, contrary to this popular belief people can very well catch up on lost sleep by taking some time off their busy schedule to nap, more so in an Avocado Mattress. Some people also believe that they only need sleep for rest, the reason why they train themselves to sleep fewer hours and work more hours.

Well, the above can be very detrimental to one’s health as we will find out below. Sleep like any other activity has both a negative and positive impact on the human body, a lack of sleep could lead to death; however, no human being has ever died of staying awake. But on a research conducted on rat’s they all died after being deprived of sleep for 32 days.

Sleep makes you smarter

People who get enough sleep tend to perform better than individuals who are sleep deprived, therefore, by getting enough sleep people tend to be more alert, and can grasp a lot of what they are being taught. The above, therefore, means that one of the simplest ways to boost our memories is by getting enough sleep. Besides afternoon naps have been established to boost happiness, improve behavior as well as academic excellence.

Catnaps are, therefore, encouraged once in a while especially when you are on a break at work, or in the afternoon as it has been established to improve mood and encourage productivity.

Sleep helps improve memory

C:\Users\Shruti\Desktop\19 march\April\9 April\images\6.jpg

Napping is believed to trigger changes in the brain that help solidify memory; the above strengthens connections between the brain cells and aids in the transfer of information from one brain region to another. Besides, it is believed that people who sleep after learning new information they are better placed to retain information. So, while you sleep at night your brain is busy processing and making connections to the events of the day.

Important to note is that the more fulfilling your sleep time is, the easier it will be for you to retain information.

Sleep helps reduce stress

C:\Users\Shruti\Desktop\19 march\April\9 April\images\7.jpg

Sleep has also been determined to help control blood pressure, and reduce cholesterol levels, which plays a significant role in encouraging the development of heart disease. Many people think that sleeping for fewer hours has no effect on their overall well being; the thing here, however, is that the human body quickly goes into stress once it is sleep-deprived.

In which case the body functions are put on high alert, the above then causes a spike in blood pressure and an increase in the production of stress hormones. Remember that when your blood pressure is too high then you risk suffering from a heart attack and consequently stroke. Even worse is that with the release of stress hormones then, it becomes very hard for one to fall asleep.

Sleep helps in weight loss

Growth hormones are normally produced when one is sleeping, which in turn burns fat and in the process repairs and builds muscles while increasing strength and encouraging weight loss. People who are on the weight loss journey therefore, better watch their sleep patterns simply because the hormone that regulates appetite (ghrelin and leptin), get disrupted by poor sleep patterns.

And by consistently disrupting your sleep patterns and sleeping only for a few hours you will end up being obese or overweight.

Sleep helps reduce inflammation

C:\Users\Shruti\Desktop\19 march\April\9 April\images\8.jpg

Sleep, as we have established above, helps reduce stress levels, which is a known cause for chronic inflammation. The above, therefore, creates a path for the heart-related conditions to arise; including cancer and diabetes, and worse still is that the body deteriorates faster as we age. Thus taking some good time to sleep helps to protect the body from inflammation by avoiding pro-inflammatory cases that take place when one engages in poor sleep patterns.

With the above information in hand, it will be of help if we understood the various stages of sleep, and know-how best we can maximize our allocated sleeping times.

The wake stage (0)

Wake stages are two, the time before you sleep and after you have woken up, but it can also be stretched to include the brief moments that you get up in between sleep at night. Getting up in the middle of the night briefly and regaining your sleep is completely normal for older people and kids, who might be woken by dreams or nightmares.

The Light sleep stage (1 & 2)

C:\Users\Shruti\Desktop\19 march\April\9 April\images\9.jpg

This is the exact stage that you transition into heavy sleep. It is at this stage that your muscles start to relax, your heart rate and breathing also go down, your body temperature may drop and consequently sleeping begins.

The Deep Sleep stage (3 & 4)

The deep sleep stage is where the restorative activities take place, at this stage, your body’s blood pressure will have dropped, but blood flow to the muscles will increase. The repair hormones are then released promoting muscle growth and repair, tissue growth also takes place at this precise time. It is also the period that if someone tries to wake you up, they will find a completely disoriented version of you.

The REM sleep stage (R)

C:\Users\Shruti\Desktop\19 march\April\9 April\images\10.jpg

Also known as the Rapid Eye Movement stage, when you go to sleep, you will enter the REM stage at least 90 minutes after falling asleep, each of the REM stages lasts up to one hour, and this is the time of the night that the human brain also becomes very active; REM is, therefore, the period that you are active in dreamland, it is also at this time that memory consolidation takes place.

And the two major activities that take place in your body at this time are that your body is disabled thus you will be unable to act out your dreams; people also experience blood flow to their genitals. And given that adults encounter at least six REM cycles every night, the cycles tend to reduce with age.

Our Medical Professionals Deserve Respect and Love

April 11, 2020

When you’re ill, it’s easy for you to feel irritated. You complain about everything. When you’re at the hospital, you can’t help it but be difficult for the medical professionals helping you out. You always find a way to complain about the services you’re getting. You can’t even thank them for helping you out.

With the rise of coronavirus patients all over the world, it’s only now that we recognise how vital these medical professionals are. Each day is like going to war for all of them. They have to work hard while everyone else needs to stay home. Some of them fell ill or even died because they had to fight the virus. Therefore, we can only be grateful to the services offered by these people. Not even all of them receive enough payment for what they do. They work for several hours a day, or even more now due to the pandemic. Despite that, some of them have to live from paycheck to paycheck.

Be more polite

Given how much help these medical professionals offer, the least you can do is to be polite. The next time you go to a hospital to ask for medical help, you have to be nice. It doesn’t matter how irritated you are with your symptoms; you have to remain calm. Choose the right words and be friendly to your doctors and nurses.

When you get admitted to a hospital, you also have to be courteous to your nurses. Thank them for looking after you. Some of them have to get back to you time after time to determine if you’re okay. They will monitor your progress and remind you to take your medicines. Don’t forget to offer them a smile for what they do. Leave them a thank you note as you make your way out of the hospital.

Medical professionals save lives all the time

We might now see the massive help offered by these medical professionals. The truth is that even before the pandemic, they’re already doing a lot. They save lives all the time. They study different cases. Some of them keep working at home to research about their patients who still don’t recover. Others become devastated if their patients end up dying.

Listen to your doctor

Aside from thanking your doctors, another thing you can do is to listen to them. When you’re ill, you can show respect by listening to the advice given to you. Make sure that you follow the instructions on how to take your medicines. You also need to avoid eating foods that your doctor told you not to. When you disobey these instructions, it will take more time before you recover.

Even if you only seek medical advice from an online doctor, you still have to listen carefully. If asked to buy antibiotics online UK to recover from your illness, you have to do it. When you recover soon, your doctor can spend more time helping out other patients.

How to Stop Overpaying for Home Expenses

April 10, 2020

Being a homeowner is a dream that many people share. The idea that you could be the owner of your own property is exciting and something that a lot of us strive for at some point in life. However, with owning a house comes the variety of upkeep responsibilities that you’ll have every month. These expenses can be daunting and even problematic, especially if you’ve lost a job or have had a new bill added to the dozens that you already owe. Saving on these everyday expenses is essential for reducing financial stress while living there.

Your Monthly Mortgage

The mortgage that you pay is essentially a loan from the lender that allows you to live there. You technically do not fully own the property until this loan is paid off, since the home can go into foreclosure if you begin to default on payments. The key to stop overpaying for your mortgage is to compare rates. You can compare quotes to find a lender that offers affordable rates and considerably generous repayment terms. If you already have a mortgage with a specific lender, you may want to consider refinancing as a way to lower those monthly payments.

Insurance

Homeowners insurance is essential for protecting your property and assets in the event of an emergency. Many of these policies protect against fires, floods and even burglaries. Home insurance can be quite pricey, but you can avoid overspending because quotes are available from online brokers. In addition, you can make necessary upgrades to your house that lower its liability, which might include using fencing if you have a dog or pool, or it could involve removing a fireplace and installing a more economical and fire-safe heating system.

Utilities

Utilities often include things like electric, fuel for heating systems, internet and cable. In most cases, these utilities are an absolute necessity in order to live comfortably within the home with your family. The best way for you to lower the costs of these services is to simply do research to see which companies offer the best prices. For example, your cable and internet service can be bundled together to reduce overall costs and fees. The fuel that you’re using to power the heating system can come from a cheaper company rather than the one you’ve been using for years. Most areas have multiple service providers available, so it just takes a bit of research to find the one that’s right for you.

Maintenance Costs

Maintaining your home is very important, as it helps to prevent major repairs from needing to be done. Maintenance can include things like lawn care, yearly roof inspections and trash pickup. While all of these services are needed to keep the property in good working condition, they can also run into a lot of money. As with your utilities, comparing different companies and receiving quotes from several of them can be beneficial in cutting costs.

Repairs

Repair work may be needed from time to time if something breaks down either inside or outside of the house. Your septic system needs to be replaced or you have to get a new roof installed because the current one is leaking. A great way to avoid the shock of these repair costs is to set up an emergency fund specific to your property. If something breaks down and needs to either be replaced or repaired, you won’t need to take out loans or max out credit cards just to fix things.

Tips for Disinfecting Your Home and Keeping Everything Clean

April 8, 2020

As you all know, we are living through another pandemic that changed the way we live our lives. In order to stay protected, you need to make sure you live in a clean environment. The latest situation turned us into germ freaks using a wide range of chemicals in order to get rid of bacteria.

Isolating yourself and your family and staying home is the only way to avoid spreading the virus, but we all know that it is not possible on long term bases. In fact, you need to get out and buy necessary things like food, medicine or water.

That is why in this article we will go through some of the tips to keep your home virus-free.

First and foremost, you need to protect yourself.

Washing your hands should be your top priority. Recent researches showed us that your hands are touching your face at least 16 times within an hour. This means that the virus can be easily transferred from surfaces to you.

Stay home. The best way to stop the spread is to isolate yourself home even if you are not sick. You should avoid going out for everything that is unnecessary.

Clean vs. Disinfect

If you want to keep your home safe, you can use two methods, cleaning or disinfecting. There is a great difference between both. Cleaning is about removing any contaminants from surfaces in your home, whereas disinfecting is about permanently killing pathogens. Most health organizations recommend that you do both on a daily bases if anyone entered your home.

Focus on High-Touch Surfaces

High-touch surfaces have the best chance to get contaminated by the virus since many hands are touching them. The bacteria of the virus can live up to 24 hours on cardboard, and two or three days on stainless steel and plastic. This means that you should pay more attention and disinfect daily things like:

  • Table surfaces
  • Kitchen counters
  • Bathroom counters
  • Toilets
  • Doorknobs
  • Light switches
  • TV remote control

Best Disinfectants for your Home

Choosing the best disinfectants sometimes gets people frustrated since they don’t know which one of them works for cleaning contaminated surfaces. You can find store-bought disinfectants that will do the job just right, such as:

  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Disinfectant spray
  • Disinfecting wipes

However, even if you cannot get your hands on store-bought disinfectants, don’t worry, you can make one yourself.

Since we were not prepared for such a thing, we can find a lot of empty shelves in stores, especially for disinfectants. However, you can make just as good a disinfectant at home.

For example, you can use homemade bleach disinfectant spray by combining:

  • 1-quart water
  • Four teaspoons household bleach
  • Pour into a bottle with spray and mix it
  • After that, you can spray it on surfaces and leave it for 10 minutes after wiping with a wet cloth

Bleach is a great substance against germs, but it needs to be diluted in order to avoid damaging surfaces or hard breathing since it is a strong chemical.

You can also make wet wipes by mixing pure bleach in a gallon of water. Then dip a paper towel. It can be used for wiping surfaces in your home (make sure you are wearing gloves), but make sure you leave the surface wet enough time in order to get rid of all bacteria.

Wash Your Clothes

The virus can be transferred even on fabric. This means that you should wash your clothes more frequently. Washing your clothes with detergent at high temperatures is enough to disinfect your clothes. You’ll only need to clean the surfaces that your clothes get in contact with, such as the hamper.

Should I Disinfect Food Packaging?

There is no evidence to suggest that food packaging can transmit the virus, which means there is no need for disinfecting it. You should just follow the standard food safety procedures.

These are some of the tips that you should follow in order to keep your home safe and clean. After all analysis and predictions are as uncertain as someone trying to guess the Kentucky Derby winner. Experts predict that the peak of the virus hasn’t arrived in most countries. We need to pay more attention to our personal hygiene and stay home as much as possible.

Ways To Prepare Your Body For Plastic Surgery

April 6, 2020

You’ve gone to all the appointments, and you have the perfect plan for your plastic surgery operation. There’s one thing left to be done. You have to prepare your body to go under the knife.

Taking good care of your vessel before surgery is a good way to up the odds of everything going just fine. Take a moment now to consider these tips and prepare yourself for surgery as soon as possible. However, be sure to contact a qualified Plastic Surgeon in Newport Beach to find out more information and tips before attempting any surgical intervention.

Give your body essential vitamins and nutrients

Giving your body the right vitamins and nutrients before going under the knife will help to assure that it has all it needs to withstand the invasion of a surgeon and foreign materials.

Make sure your body has enough of these essential vitamins in your body before you’re scheduled to go under the knife.

  • Vitamin A – Vital for healing, it helps the body produce collagen.
  • Vitamin C – This is a well-known immune booster, but it also promotes collagen production.
  • Zinc – Zinc helps the skin to maintain its durability. It can also boost the immune system to help fight off infection after surgery.

Eat plenty of protein before surgery

In general, it’s good to make sure your diet is on track for a while before surgery. Dietary recommendations should be among the top questions you ask your surgeon, but there are some simple guidelines to get you started.

Protein is an essential component of building new tissue and blood vessels in the body. You will need that ability after the surgeon rearranges a few things. Eat foods that are rich in protein like beans, fish, lean meats, and chicken.

Avoid drinking alcohol before surgery

Alcohol isn’t a good additive to surgery of any type. Drinking alcohol before surgery can cause your blood pressure to rise. Alcohol thins your blood, making it harder for your body to clot naturally during surgery.

Drinking alcohol can also impede your body’s natural healing abilities. You’ll want to start drying yourself out at least a month before surgery to give your body the best shot at a flawless recovery.

Stop smoking before having plastic surgery

Smoking cigarettes negatively affects nearly every area of the body. It’s well known that smoking compromises the immune system and the body’s ability to heal. After the shock plastic surgery can cause to your body, you’ll need all the help you can get to boost your body’s natural ability to fight off intruders.

Smoking cigarettes restricts blood vessels, causing your body’s tissues to get only a fraction of the life-giving oxygen they need to thrive. It’s always a good time to quit smoking cigarettes, even if you aren’t planning a surgery anytime in the near future.

5 Tips for Using CBD Oil for Pets

April 6, 2020

The use of CBD for pets is getting to a large number, and that is because of the number of remarkable benefits it provides to them.

Cannabis can help solve numerous conditions that our pets may develop. That is why you should keep one close by.

However, cats and dogs might detest the taste of this oil, that’s the reason we’ve come up with the perfect tips on how you can introduce it to them.

Here are few tips for using CBD oil for your cats and dogs

1. Administer it to them Directly

Giving your pet CBD oil directly is one of the easiest ways to do it. You do not have to do much. You only need to put a few drops into the dropper and place it close to the mouth and nose area of your pet. You can check here for a step by step guide on administering cannabis directly to animals.

Let them take a look at it, and through curiosity, they get to taste the liquid from the dropper. If they do this, then you know that your CBD oil has gotten adequately into your fur baby’s system, and you can worry less.

You can also administer it by dripping the measured dose of oil in its food bowl. Now pick a “sweet” spot to sit and make sure your pet notices you doing this. It will wander towards the direction of its food bowl to find out what it was, and through interest, he will get to taste it. This method has always proved to be efficient, so its best you adopt it next time.

2. Mix it with a treat

We all know that pets love their treat, mostly when they have a favorite one. That’s why when administering a pill to them, mixing it with their treats makes it a lot simpler. The same goes for cannabis.

Usually, the treats that your pets enjoy will conceal both the texture and taste of the CBD oil that you’re mixing it with. This will make it easy for them to receive the oil properly into their system without detecting any taste of medicinal products. This leaves both parties satisfied.

The best treats to mix your CBD product with are biscuits; they are both healthy and have a dominant flavor. This will enable you to conceal the aroma appropriately.

3. Find a Good CBD Oil that your Pets would Love

Finding the right CBD oil for your pet is going to help you a lot in taking care of their conditions. There are lots of animal cannabis products out there. Although most brands may seem alike, they do taste different and have a different feel about them. You can start by checking this blog that is all about pets, and you might find the right brand for your furry companion.

It is somehow tricky finding a particular product your furry friend would enjoy, but some specific brands can help with this. Some brands infuse coconut oil into their products, and these are great for your furry friends.

4. Add CBD to your Pet’s Food

We all know how cats and dogs like to eat. Once they start eating, the bowl usually gets empty before they stop. That is why we advise that you mix the CBD oil with their food the next time you want to give this drug to them.

This will give you an assured feeling that they have properly ingested the compound, and also eaten its meal without any form of stress from your part.

It is best to mix this compound in their dry feeds because it will adequately hide the texture and taste of the product. Wet foods aren’t the best option because when the oil mixes with it, it separates in the bowl. And as a result, it might get your pooches suspicious. You can check the link below for how to add cannabis to your pet’s food.

https://cannabissupplementsforpets.com/how-to-give-your-dog-cbd-oil/

5. Put CBD Oil on your Pet’s Paws

This must be your last resort. Once you have tried the previous methods, and it isn’t efficient, then you can drip it on your cat’s and dogs’ paw. This method can be wasteful of the product, but still, it has proven to work.

How Much of CBD should your Pet Take?

Following the recommended dosage is key to the performance of this compound. Overdosing can cause serious side effects, so it’s best to know the right amount your dog or cat needs.

Veterinarians highly recommend that you give animals one drop for every 10 pounds they weigh, so we advise you to stick with this prescription.

3 Reasons You Should Upgrade Your Home to Smart Technology

April 3, 2020

In recent years, smart technology has slowly advanced to include upgrades for our homes. Now, we can upgrade with smart products, such as appliances, lights, door locks, etc. that can be either programmed and/or controlled remotely via smartphones or voice recognition gadgets like Amazon’s Alexa. As a result, smart technology can now bring you and your family safety, savings, and convenience.

Safety and Security

EceHGPwDWxRYc4Vw1APUtc37yXozhIhUW60GMLNw.jpeg

When it comes to your family, safety and security should be a top priority. Automated home systems can provide you with many safety features that will give you peace of mind while keeping your loved ones safe and sound. For instance, smart doorbells can sense when someone is approaching your door and will activate a camera so that you can monitor on your smartphone. These doorbells also have two-way audio communication where you can communicate with the people at your door. You can also use smart lighting to make your home more secure by using LED lights controlled via WiFi which can be turned on and off using your cellphone. If it’s late at night and you won’t be home for a while, you can deter burglars by switching on your lights with a few taps on your smartphone.

Smart cameras and locks also provide you with security. There are outdoor and indoor camera options, all of which can connect to your smartphone remotely. Typically available camera features include motion detection and audio recording, both of which can be saved to an offsite location, such as the Cloud. Similarly, there are two options of smart locks to choose from. The first uses a keypad or touchscreen and a code to open your door. The second uses an app on your smartphone to communicate with the lock. These locks may also include traditional keyholes as well.

Another safety benefit of smart technology comes in the form of smart thermostats and smoke detectors. If the temperature in your home suddenly becomes abnormally high, the thermostat will alert you via your smartphone, potentially warning you of a fire in your home. Similarly, a smart smoke detector will notify you if there are any hazards or emergencies when you’re not home.

Energy Efficiency and Savings

The installation of a smart thermostat can save you money on HVAC operating costs by a few hundred dollars a year. Using a smart thermostat, you have the option to set a schedule or to operate your HVAC system remotely. This means you won’t need to keep the system running while you are at work in order to come home to a comfortable temperature. Utilizing remotely controlled LED lighting in a similar manner also consumes very little energy.

Convenience

As you are able to control all smart devices remotely with an app on your smartphone, smart technology also brings convenience to your home. While at home, there are also remote controls, control panels, and voice recognition devices available to help you further control your smart devices.

Consider upgrading your home to smart technology to reap the benefits of security, savings, and convenience for you and your loved ones.

4 things I wish I knew about planning a wedding

April 2, 2020

Over here at Dinks Finance HQ, we’ve previously talked about the costs of getting married. It goes without saying that every girl dreams about the perfect wedding.

Unfortunately, studies have shown that a frightening number of couples have gone into debt all because they wanted to throw their dream wedding.

Being an expression of love and a once-in-a-lifetime (usually) affair, it’s easy to see why some folks want to splurge on the one magical day. However, from a financial standpoint, it’s not exactly prudent to get into debt just for a celebration.

Most of the time, your guests won’t remember the wedding and will usually have nothing but bad things to say about it. After the big day, couples would be left with a staggering amount of debt to repay just as they’re about to start a new life together.

Unless you’ve got some serious cash saved up in the bank, chances are you’re better off hosting a simpler, more meaningful wedding with the ones that actually matter.

It may seem insane to some, but when examined objectively, going into debt just to get married is one of the biggest mistakes that one could make. While we’re not against the idea of holy matrimony, we are against irresponsible financial planning.

So, if you’d still like to host that dream wedding but don’t want to break the bank, here’s a list of tips for hosting a wedding prudently.

1. Trim out the guest list

Weddings are a celebration of a couple’s love and while you may be tempted to include everyone you know; you’d be better served keeping the guest list small.

Each additional guest you invite is an extra expense that adds up over time. Don’t feel obligated to invite people just because you have to. Your wedding should be an intimate affair involving those who mean the most to you.

Apply the 20/20 rule and whittle down your initial guest list by 20% then re-reviewing it and reducing it by a further 20%. At the end of the day, you’ll be spending less on food and spending more time with friends and family.

2. Forget the gifts, get help instead

When my friend Jamie got married, he received a deluge of nice yet rather useless wedding gifts.

Who on earth needs to use 5 coffee makers and 3 rice cookers (his wife is from Malaysia)?

Instead of accepting gifts, why not ask for help from your friends instead. Forget hiring a band, why not get some friends and family with musical talent to provide the entertainment for the evening?

Your cousin has a side hustle taking photographs? Why not get him to lend a hand and save some money on the wedding.

When everything adds up, you’ll find that you’ve saved up quite a fair amount on additional services.

Of course, you shouldn’t cheap out when it comes to saying thank you. Organize a get together after the wedding with those who’ve lent a hand or offer your own services at their own weddings.

3. Pick a simple venue

Whether you’re renting out a hotel or a hall, the cost of booking a venue can be prohibitive, more so if you’re holding your wedding in a hotel. Picking a venue for your wedding is like making picks on NBA on BetAmerica.com: you should go with your instinct and avoid overthinking.

Forget all of that and instead opt for a simple ceremony at home or at the park. Home weddings are often much cozier and more intimate due to the smaller space.

Of course, before doing so, check with your neighbors to see if they mind. At home, you’ll be able to save on accommodation as friends and family can easily bunk with you.

In Malaysia for example, weddings were traditionally held at the home of the bride where everyone got together to cook the meals and prepare the decorations. The communal atmosphere of everyone getting together often made weddings homelier and more memorable.

Holding your wedding outdoors at a park can be equally special but you’ll need to have a backup plan in case of bad weather.

4. Prepare your own alcohol

Having an open bar wedding can be a costly affair. Typically, hotels and function halls are absolutely cutthroat when it comes to booze.

Instead shop around outside and supply your own alcohol. Oftentimes, you’ll be able to get better quality alcohol at much more affordable prices.

Getting married is one of life’s most memorable events. With proper planning and preparation, you should have no trouble hosting your own dream wedding.
