Top Reasons why Thousands of Kiwis Move to Australia Every Year

February 27, 2020

New Zealand has been described by some as just an extension of Australia. Being neighbours, with similar flags, indigenous culture, and landscapes, the statement is not far from the truth.

There are nearly half a million Kiwis currently living in Australia – that’s more than the total population of Wellington. On average, more than 20,000 Kiwis move to Australia annually. Interestingly, many Australians are now taking the opposite route back to New Zealand.

Let’s take a look at possible reasons why Kiwis are flowing into Australia in their numbers …

The Weather

The weather in Australia is considered very desirable to most Kiwi emigrants. With New Zealand having a nearly round-the-year rainy and cold weather, Australia’s hot climate is a breath of fresh air to some. The weather is just as unpredictable in Australia as it is in New Zealand, but in some places such as Brisbane, you can get up to 283 days of sunshine in a year. Other capital cities like Sydney and Melbourne also record a sunny climate which most Kiwis are delighted to get used to.

The Wildlife

The scariest animal in New Zealand, and about the only animal the country is known for, is the Kiwi bird. This is unlike Australia that has a rich wildlife offering. Impressive creatures such as the kangaroo, koala, and wombats, among others, attract thousands of tourists to the country each year. Australia is also home to more than 20 of the most dangerous creatures on the planet such as the box jellyfish, the eastern brown snake, the red-back spider, the blue-ringed octopus, and bull sharks. While New Zealand is known for its cool mountains, Australia’s parks and nature reserves are quite enticing.

The Wine

Aussies love their wine more than New Zealanders! There are about 60 designated wine regions in Australia producing more than 1.3 trillion bottles of wine yearly – making it the fifth-highest producer of wine in the world. On the other hand, New Zealand is also remarkable in wine production. With prominent labels like the Cloudy Bay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail for wine-loving tourists; the country is the fifteenth top producer of wine in the world.

The Beaches

This is probably the loveliest thing about Australia. There are more than 10,000 beaches in Australia. In fact, if you were to visit a new beach every day in Australia, it would take you about 29 years to go round. From Bondi Beach to sailing Whitsundays around Whitehaven Island, Cable Beach, and Bells Beach amongst others, you will certainly have a great time touring the beautiful and picturesque beaches the country has to offer. New Zealand has great beaches too – the likes of Cathedral Cove, Ninety Mile Beach, Medlands, Sandfly Bay and more than 400 others.

Better Pay

While the cost of living in Australia is a bit higher than that of New Zealand, especially in big cities such as Sydney and Melbourne; Australia pays higher. There are also better job opportunities in Australia than in New Zealand. When you compare Melbourne and Wellington, you will find that workers comfortably take care of bills in the former rather than in the latter. Given that Australia is already developed, the tax is much reduced too, unlike in New Zealand. Australia also ranks higher on the world Human Development Index.

Better Lifestyle

Being a continent that is about five times the size of New Zealand in population and also better developed, Australia generally has a much better lifestyle. With better music, food, and art offerings, you will easily adapt as a Kiwi. Australia is about the sports capital of the world, with many international sporting activities taking place in the country all year round. In terms of culture, while the Maori are better accepted in New Zealand than the Aboriginals are accepted in Australia, there are more colourful cultural festivals in Australia.

Ease of Movement

It is much easier to move from New Zealand to Australia than it is from the latter to the former. In fact, as a Kiwi, you can visit, work and live in Australia without a tourist or work visa. As a Kiwi migrant to Australia, there are many benefits you stand to enjoy, unlike other migrants. It is also very easy to move property from New Zealand to cities in Australia such as Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide. (Visit https://www.ausmove.co.nz/moving-to-australia)

Better Phone Services

Service providers are more generous in Australia than in New Zealand. Telecom companies in the continent offer great data plans with unlimited texting, calling and other fantastic offers. For the same cost, you will get far less service in New Zealand. So if you are comfortable with the phone service in Auckland or Wellington, you will be mind-blown in Australia. You get free Wi-Fi in nearly every proper establishment in the country unlike in New Zealand.

These are the possible eight reasons why thousands of Kiwis migrate to Australia every year. There could be many other reasons but they will inevitably centre around the better life Australia offers. With the recent positive developments in New Zealand, however, statistics show a significant drop in the number of emigrants and an actual increase in the number of people coming into the country. Reports also indicate that more Aussies are coming to New Zealand to live. Hopefully, in a few years to come, more Kiwis will return home.

Skin Cancer- What All You Need To Know About It

February 27, 2020

Skin cancer is a leading cause of illness and ultimately death of white Australians. It is caused by over-exposure to the sun and tanning. This article will tell you about this disease so that you can take preventive action.

According to many reports, people having light skin, hair and eyes are more likely to contract this disease. This doesn’t mean that dark-toned people don’t get skin cancer; even they can get it due to overexposure to the sun. Tanning beds may also cause skin cancer.

The other high-risk people of skin cancer are;

  • People living in high altitudes
  • People living in sunny areas
  • People who have had a family history of this disease
  • People who had skin cancer earlier
  • Those people who have been exposed to the sun since their young age.
  • Lastly, people who have weak immune systems might also get this disease.

Males are more likely to get skin cancer than females. There are three kinds of skin cancer- basal cell, squamous cell, and melanoma. The first two make up more than 90 percent of all cases of skin cancer. These cancers are easy to diagnose and treat. Melanoma is difficult to detect and treat.

Skin cancer can manifest on head, neck, face, lips, inside the mouth, abdomen, thighs, palms, arms, soles, and even on testicles. Some skin cancers occur inside the rectal opening as well. The main symptoms of skin cancer are.

  • There are changes in the color and size of warts
  • Affected skin becomes dry, peach or pink colored
  • There might be festering wounds on the skin
  • Wounds and injuries are painful to heal

Skin cancer can be treated in several ways. These are.

  1. Skin cancer cells are spliced off the body and later examined under a microscope. The process is continued further until there are no more cancerous cells on the skin.
  2. A high beam of energy is directed toward the affected body part. This beam of light kills cancerous cells and stops the spread of this disease to other parts of the body. This treatment is effective and inexpensive.
  3. In some instances, the topmost cancerous tissue is removed, and the underlying cells are treated with an electric needle. These cells are later frozen by liquid nitrogen. This way, the spread of cancer is halted.
  4. Cancer cells can also be frozen by liquid nitrogen to halt the disease.
  5. Some drugs are given to the patients; these drugs work along with the light. This treatment is also called photodynamic therapy.
  6. In a few cases, this disease is treated by boosting the body’s immune systems. This is done by administering vaccines like interferon.
  7. Certain skin cancers are treated with chemotherapy. Lotions and creams are applied to the patient’s affected body part if skin cancer is superficial. If the disease is widespread, then the nature and scope of this treatment changes.

Please note that each of these treatments depends upon the nature and scope of the disease. Skin cancer can be treated entirely if the disease is diagnosed well in advance. If you suspect you or anyone else has this disease, contact cancer specialists like Sundoctors immediately. You can prevent this disease by doing these things;

  1. Avoid working long hours in the sun.
  2. Cover up while working or walking in the sun.
  3. Apply sunscreen while walking, working, etc. in the sun.
  4. Don’t use tanning beds; these may cause skin cancer.

Above all, please monitor your skin frequently. Watch your warts, moles, etc. If they are changing their appearance, visit a doctor.

Wishing you a happy pregnancy, and healthy life to you as much as to your little munchkin!

How To Decide Which Surgery Is The Best For Your Eyes?

February 27, 2020

Wearing eyeglasses or contacts can be cumbersome for a lot of people. Given a chance, they would discard their glasses and contacts altogether. Of late, there have been many advances in eye-surgery. Some of the new procedures correct the cornea while others treat the lens of the eye. If you are looking to get the best eye surgery, have a look at this article.

1. Laser-in-situ-keratomileusis

This surgical procedure is also known as LASIK. In this treatment, surgeons remove the tissue underlying the cornea so that light can be focused on the retina. Toward that end, they create a flap on the outer cover of the cornea to access the targeted tissue.

Currently, LASIK surgeons use computer-generated images to get an accurate idea of the patient’s cornea. LASIK is safe and is used by millions of people all over the world to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. If you are planning to go in for LASIK surgery, you may contact specialists such as PersonalEyes Laser Surgeons.

2. Photorefractive Keratectomy

This procedure is also called PRK in the medical fraternity. PRK is used to reshape the cornea of the eye. Unlike LASIK, it is not used to remove the underlying cornea tissue. If you or someone you know has mild to moderate nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism, then PRK would be okay for him.

3. Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis

The short form of this procedure is LASEK. It is a modification of PRK, and here, the surgeon loosens the epithelial cells by applying alcohol. Then, the cornea is set by fixing a contact lens on it. LASEK is also used to treat cases of astigmatism, farsightedness, and nearsightedness.

4. Automated Lamellar Keratoplasty or ALK

LASIK and ALK do the same job- remove the underlying cornea tissue. In the former, however, the surgeon makes a small incision or cut in the sub- cornea tissue. In LASIK, a laser is used. The objectives are the same; to rectify the cornea so that light can be focused upon the retina. ALK is used to treat severe cases of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Surgeons, these days, rely more on LASIK for sight correction.

5. Refractive Lens Exchange

This surgical treatment is used to treat farsightedness, nearsightedness, etc. In this procedure, surgeons replace the lens on the cornea with a silicone or plastic-made lens. RLE is also recognized as Clear Lens Extraction or Refractive Lens Exchange and is also used to treat cataracts, dry eyes, thin corneas, and eye-irritation problems.

6. EpiLasik

This surgical procedure is quite like PRK. Here, the doctor cuts a small layer of the cornea and reshapes it. Depending on its condition, this layer may even be replaced with another. Later, he applies a soft contact lens to heal the wound.

7. Presbyopic Lens Exchange

Do you have trouble focusing upon very close objects? In that case, probably your eye lens has lost its flexibility. In medical terms, this condition is called Presbyopia. To treat this condition, doctors insert a multifocal lens in your eye to correct your vision.

8. Astigmatic Keratotomy

Corneas of people having astigmatism are shaped like a football. Astigmatic keratotomy cuts the steep portions of the cornea and makes the latter more rounded. Surgeons using this procedure take the help of other doctors while treating astigmatism.

9. Phakic Intraocular Implants

Some patients suffering from extreme nearsightedness need this procedure. Here, the doctor makes a small incision at the edge of the cornea and attaches an implant to the iris behind the pupil. In this procedure, the natural lens is left untouched.

We hope this article would help you shortlist the right treatments you may want to inquire about.

If you have medical insurance, your physio will reduce his treatment charges. Before going to a physio, please be aware of the various kinds of knee pain. They are:

  1. Acute knee pain- This kind of knee pain happens 1-7 days after any injury. This pain is intense and very hard to bear. Rest your knee for a few days to let the pain subside.

4 Steps to Creating and Maintaining a Healthier Work Environment

February 25, 2020

Having a happy and healthy work environment has an impact that goes well beyond the wellness of your team. Happy and healthy employees are more productive, engaged and motivated to work towards the company’s goals. They’re also much less likely to suffer from absenteeism and presenteeism.

Unfortunately, creating a physically and psychologically healthy work environment is easier said than done, particularly if your company has a toxic culture that you need to overcome. However, that doesn’t mean it can’t be achieved. Here are 4 simple tips to help you get there.

  1. Build trust

Before taking steps to increase the physical health of your workers, you need to create a culture that supports them psychologically. According to the staffing agency Adecco, honesty, trust and fairness are the most important attributes in the workplace for 90 percent of employees. Building trust takes time but it is achievable if you follow these simple rules:

  • Own up to your mistakes and make amends
  • Make promises and keep them
  • Make firm commitments
  • Communicate with your team and give them regular updates
  • Discuss the obstacles you face and how you plan to overcome them
  1. Promote wellness

You can put a range of benefits in place that will help to promote the physical and mental wellness of your team. Those benefits do not need to be expensive and any costs are likely to be repaid in the form of increased staff retention, reduced absenteeism and a boost to productivity.

Workplace exercise programmes like weekly yoga sessions and free massages can boost physical wellness, while supplying healthy food, such as regular office fruit baskets can give your team more energy and improve their concentration, outlook and mood. You can read more on these benefits here.

  1. Recognise and reward

Another way to keep motivation and spirits high is to recognise the efforts of your team and make sure they are rewarded. It’s amazing how simple but incredibly effective a little recognition can be. Just 60 seconds out of your day can completely change the outlook of your team. It’s the little things that matter, and simply sending an email for a milestone achieved or taking the team to coffee or lunch can make a huge difference to morale.

  1. Invest in ergonomic office furniture

Office workers can spend up to 8 hours a day sitting at a desk. Add in commuting time and you have a health problem that’s waiting to happen. 8.9 million working days were lost in the UK last year due to work-related musculoskeletal disorders. As well as the working days lost, the pain associated with such disorders can damage productivity and do considerable harm to morale. A Townsville office furniture expert reminds us that investing in ergonomic office furniture and installing standing desks can be a simple and cost-effective solution.

What changes have you made to create a healthier working environment for your team? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

4 Secrets Of Happily Married Couples

February 23, 2020

Chances are that you’ve probably heard the saying “marriage is hard work” before. There is truth in this statement. A lot of couples get married, thinking that love is enough. Unfortunately, love is only the tip of the iceberg. You’ll both need to put in a considerable amount of effort every day. Even happy couples have hard times and arguments.

The success of a couple doesn’t lie in how well they make it through good times, but rather how they make it through hard times. So, what are these secrets of happily married couples who stay together forever? Take a look at some of the tips that happy couples say work best.

Embrace Your Differences

Couples who have been married for decades swear by the fact that not only is it ok to be different than your partner, but they can actually make you closer. When you learn to accept and even appreciate each other’s differences, then you’ll find that you are much happier over time.

Even though you may not have the same interests and opinions in life, you should still make an effort to get to know more about the other person’s interests.

Taking time to watch a baseball game just because your partner loves it will show them that you’re making an effort. The same goes for them taking the time to participate in your interests occasionally too!

Be a Team

Playing against each other is one of the fastest ways to end in divorce. You should always be on each other’s teams. Defend each other and encourage each other. Criticizing or blaming each other will ultimately result in resentment.

Focusing on the idea that you’re playing on the same side in life will help you stick by each other’s times when you face adversity.

Prioritize Intimacy

It’s essential that you remember to have physical contact regularly. Some people may confuse intimacy as only being sex. However, the truth is that intimacy is so much more. Intimacy involves simple touch and moments alone together. It’s about being vulnerable and tender.

Something as simple as a kiss before the other leaves for work can speak volumes to their partner. Without physical touch, you’re not really a romantic couple at all, but rather roommates.

Give Up Being Right

One of the biggest causes of relationships failing is bickering. Some couples just can’t seem to get rid of their need to be right all of the time. Their need to make the other person wrong or at fault is so strong that they’ll fight to the point of divorce to prove their point.

If you really love your partner, give up the need to be right. Let things be and accept that you may not always see things the same way, and you’ll both be much happier.
