Congratulations on finally getting to bring your new baby home. However exciting as it may be, it can also be a lot of work. The only way that you’re going to make sure that it’s a successful and smooth sailing experience is if you make sure that you have everything you need.
The essentials are warmth, food, and love—yet, there are some tools that make things much easier. Take a look at some of the must-haves that you should equip yourself with for bringing your new baby home.
A Baby Monitor
Although your baby might not do much sleeping in their own room initially, you might want to start trying during their naps. A baby monitor is the best way to ensure that you can hear them crying if they’re in their room out of hearing range.
It’s worth the peace of mind knowing that you can hear them if they are distressed. If you want the added benefit of being able to see your baby, then you should also consider a video feature.
A Car Seat
A car seat is essential for being able to bring your baby home. Although you can buy many things used for your baby, a car seat should not be one of them. Since safety regulations are constantly evolving, it’s important that you get one that is up-to-date with the latest safety standards.
There are many different options to choose from. Take a look at all of the different features and decide on the best one for your budget.
Feeding Supplies
Whether you’re planning on breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, you’ll still need the right gear. Although breastfeeding requires fewer supplies, you’ll still need things like a breastfeeding pillow, a sling for nursing on-the-go, and a breast pump for expressing milk if you’re in an appointment or away from your baby for some other reason.
If you bottle-feed, you’ll need bottles, formula, and bibs. You’ll also need a way to sterilize your bottles. While it’s possible to do it boiling water on the stove, it’s preferable to use a device specifically made for sterilization of bottles.
Diaper Supplies
Your baby is going to poop and pee — like a lot. It’s important to make sure that you have everything that you need for all of the changes that you’ll be doing. Ideally, you should have a changing table, baby wipes, and either cloth or disposable diapers. Although cloth diapers are better for the environment, many people prefer disposable since it’s easier.
Clothing
Before you buy too much clothing, remember that your baby will be growing at an extremely rapid rate. Make sure that you don’t buy too much of one certain age. Above all, remember, baby sizes vary. Sometimes newborn size may not necessarily fit your baby when they’re newborn. You may have to size up or down depending on the unique size of your baby.
