Everything You Need To know About Diving In Flores

November 22, 2019

Indonesia is a haven for travelers of all kinds mainly because it is bursting with permanently inhabited islands. Unfortunately, a vast majority only travel to one, Bali. Flores Island is gem and happens to be one of the best diving sites in the Archipelago. This is mainly because of the Manta Rays of Komodo National Park, the swift currents and crazy critters found in Maumere Bay.

How do you get there?

Thanks to progressive infrastructure, flying between the islands in Indonesia has been made quite easy. From major cities you can fly to two key destination in Flores, that is Labuan Bajo and Ende. The flight offers majestic views of both Labuan Bajo and the island network as you descend. However, this view is best enjoyed if you are sitting on the right side of the plane.

Despite looking unfinished, the airport at Labuan Bajo is quite modern and suits the city well. From there you can take a taxi, train or bus into town if your Flores dive resort hasn’t arranged transportation for you. The town center is only accessible through a single one-way road that goes around it, offering stunning panoramic views of the port with a backdrop that is full of endless islands.

Where to stay

The options for accommodation in Flores are scarce when compared to Bali. However, there is a wide range of choices depending on your budget. The AYANA Komodo Resort located on the exquisite Waecicu Beach in Labuan Bajo is the first and only 5 star resort making it a great choice for luxurious accommodation. Featuring 192 guest rooms and 13 suites, the resort is inspired by open living, comfort and light.

Where to eat

If you are a fan of trying out local cuisine, there are a number of vendors on the streets selling traditional dishes such as Beef Rendang, Nasi Goreng or Soto Ayam. You can also head to the local fish market if you want to sample the daily catch. Have a beer or cocktail while enjoying some of the most alluring sunsets you will ever see.

Diving at Flores

Diving is the primary reason why travelers visit Labuan Bajo. It doesn’t matter whether you are a first timer or a seasoned diver, you should try out the liveaboard tours as there are plenty of companies to choose from. Most tours offer land-based activities in various islands including a visit to the Komodo National Park to see the dragons either in Rinca or Komodo Islands.

If you are new to diving, with the help of an instructor you will descend to 12 meters and then take a series of breathing exercises. Depending on the time of the year, you are most likely to witness a group of massive manta rays.

Komodo dragons

You can’t dock at Rinca, Komodo or Padar islands and not explore the Komodo National Park which is home to about 5,700 Komodo dragons. Additionally, this is the only place that you will see the massive monitor lizard in live action, an animal that is aptly named for its reptilian appearance and aggressive nature. Ensure that you get a guided tour when going on a Komodo dragon tour.

What to see

The manta rays are the biggest attraction to the Indonesian underwater world especially around the Komodo National Park. However, while these creatures frequent the park, spending much time with them might not be that easy because you are more likely to get caught in a quick draft. With that in mind, some sites around the Komodo National Park will allow you to enjoy the display of trevally, whitetip sharks, barracuda, tuna and rainbow runner swimming around looking for something to eat.

You are also most likely to see Eagle rays. Similarly, you may see interesting critters such as nudibranch and frogfish amongst the corals while butterflyfish, lyretail anthias and angelfish can be found around healthy sloping reefs.

The Premier Voice Assistant: What Alexa is Doing Right

November 21, 2019

You have likely already heard of virtual assistants before, as it is a type of technology that has been trying to make waves for many years. Similar to many other types of technological gimmicks, it has ebbed and flowed in many different forms, with its modern iteration making use of voice requests – which in itself is also not an original idea.

Considering that voice integration and virtual assistants have continually failed over the past few decades, it is safe to assume that the modern attempt will likely fade into obscurity. Surprisingly enough, however, the inception of Alexa has resulted in the rise of voice integration technology. What is Alexa doing right that all of the other iterations failed to accomplish?

Convenience in every sense of the word

In order for a technological gimmick to make waves, it has to be convenient in just about every aspect. It is not enough for it to succeed in its function, but it also must exceed expectations. After all, most gimmicks are not necessarily doomed to failure. It just so happens that technology has not yet caught up with the concept, which often results in failure. For example, motion control is trying to capture lightning in a bottle, but the lack of support makes it a challenging goal to accomplish.

The right place at the right time

It was not easy for voice requests and virtual assistants to become as popular as they did. It had attempted to succeed many times before but failed just because of a lack of tech which supported voice requests. Compare it to today, where Alexa is capable of interfacing with most apps depending on the proper Alexa skills development. It has plenty of potential to be used in a variety of situations, though it requires the right skills to get the job done.

Examples of Alexa doing it right

It is not enough to say that Alexa is doing a good job – it is vital to consider what exactly Alexa is doing to succeed where most other virtual assistants have failed. Some examples include:

  • Alexa and business. It can be a virtual secretary, setting your calendar and ensuring that you are reminded of events. It can also work with business software to help streamline tasks.
  • Alexa and active lifestyles. It can be used to track your vitals with the right app, as well as provide information regarding hikes and jogging trails. It can recommend healthy options, as well as deliver the food to your doorstep.
  • Alexa at home. It can set the mood with music, control the temperature, as well as make the consumption of media much more convenient.

When it boils down to it, Alexa succeeds as it can incorporate into many apps, allowing people from all walks of life to make full use of its capabilities. Without a doubt, the potential of Alexa to grow is nearly limitless, as its success depends on its integration with apps.

5 Tips for Picking a Hotel for Your Next Holiday

November 21, 2019

The year 2019 is coming to an end and many have already started browsing the early bird offers for next Summer holiday. With thousands of offers on the table and big discounts available, it can be hard to choose the right hotel for your needs. Here are five tips that will help you make a decision!

1. Know what is important to you.

The starting point when choosing a hotel is knowing what is most important to you. Are you looking for a romantic atmosphere or party vibe? Do you want a room with a view? How about free breakfast? Create a list of deal breakers, and it will naturally narrow down the available options. Then, continue with the following five tips to pick the perfect hotel for your next holiday.

2. Location, Location, Location

It’s safe to say that the hotel’s location is one of the most important factors. Whether it’s the beach, attractions or places to dine, you ideally want to be able to walk to most places and not spend hours in public transport or taxis each day. We recommend checking the location yourself and not to trust what the hotel says on their website. They might say that the beach is only “10 minutes away” but forget to mention that this is by car and not by foot.

3. Hotel Amenities

Oh, I didn’t know I had to pay for parking my car! Hotel amenities vary, and you should always check that the hotel covers your basic requirements to avoid turning your stay into a nightmare. Here are some tips on what to look out for.

If you are travelling to a hot country during the Summer, make sure that rooms come with air-conditioning. There is nothing worse than spending your holiday sleepless because of the heat. Equally important is free Wi-Fi. You might want to stream a movie at night or play games at casino sister sites, and the worst that could happen is the hotel charging you extra for using the Internet. Also, have a look at the times for check-in and check-out. You might arrive at your destination early in the morning and don’t want to wait until 3 p.m. to check into your room. Perhaps ask the hotel ahead of your booking, whether early check-in or late check-out is available. Next, think about breakfast. Have a look to see if the room price includes breakfast and, if not, adjust your budget accordingly account for the extra cost. Last but not least – tours! Many hotels and resorts have included tours, if you’re in Airlie Beach ask the hotel about their Airlie Beach tours and whether or not they’re included in your package. If they’re not, you should at least get a discount.

4. Be Careful with Reviews

Reviews are a great way to get a first impression of a hotel. However, be aware that not everyone is like you and what others praise or criticise might not matter that much to you. Are guests complaining about loud music coming from the pool bar? Well, if you go on holiday to party, this might be the perfect hotel then! Does one review mention “disgusting bathrooms” while all others praise the cleanliness of the place? It might just be a one-off bad experience and shouldn’t affect your choice. We recommend to look out for patterns. If every second review mentions a poor Wi-Fi connection and the Internet is crucial for you, then the hotel is probably not the right pick!

5. Who’s the Hotel’s Typical Visitor

When researching hotels, try and understand who’s the hotel’s main clientele. Do a lot of the reviews come from families but you’re going on holiday with a group of friends? There might be a mismatch here! Does the hotel focuses on bachelor parties, but you’re travelling with your partner and kids? You might find the hotel is lacking essential amenities such as a kids-friendly pool or a babysitter service.

If you are clear about your requirements and follow the five points above, there is no reason that you won’t find the perfect hotel for your next holiday. And now get cracking, because big savings are waiting for you when you book early!

Creating Silk: A Look at How it Becomes an Expensive Commodity

November 19, 2019

Silk is one of the best, if not the best, fabrics known to man. It is a natural fabric – made from cocoons of mulberry silkworms and caterpillar moths – so using anything made of silk will not make you feel guilty about using something that can be harmful to the environment. But before we wear silk pyjama sets or sleep in silk sheets and pillowcases, do we have an idea of how silk is made? The painstaking process, known as sericulture, is what makes it an expensive material. Here is a peek at how the process of silk-making takes place before manufacturers make it into various products.

Gold, Waving, Abstract, Background, Design, Color

Culture and growing of silkworms

Silkworms feed on mulberry leaves, and they produce protein from feeding on these leaves. Silkworms are the only producers of silk, and the cocoons they create are where silk is harvested. Silk producers culture and grow these silkworms so that they will produce more cocoons and, in turn, silk.

Thread extraction

The cocoons of the silkworms are where silk manufacturers harvest the silk from. Silkworms produce a lot of cocoons, but each of them is small, so it becomes an arduous process of extracting thread from each of the cocoons.

Dyeing

This is the process where the threads become different colours. Manufacturers use dye to create different-coloured silk threads.

Spinning

After dyeing the silk threads comes the spinning of the threads into spools. Silk manufacturers will then use these spools in weaving, so it becomes easier compared to weaving unspooled silk threads.

Weaving

This is the process where the threads become fabric. Weaving silk threads into whole pieces of the textile takes time. It is an intricate process that requires time and patience.

Why is silk expensive

Learning how to create silk helps us to understand why silk is costly. The time it takes to culture silkworms, harvest the cocoons, extract, dye, spin and weave the threads make it a valuable commodity. Plus, it is an all-natural material, so its value goes up tenfold compared to synthetic materials.

Distinguishing real silk from fake

There are so many fake silk sellers on the market, and with the value of silk, landing a fake product will be a waste of money. Knowing how to tell if silk is artificial or not is a crucial aspect of buying it. There are several things you can do to spot fake silk: do the burn test, feel the fabric, shine a light on it, and look at the price. If you think that a silk garment is too cheap, then it is probably fake.

While it is true that silk is more expensive than other types of fabrics, it brings many benefits to its users. One such benefit is to help people with respiratory illnesses such as asthma to reduce the number of attacks. Silk repels allergens and dust. It also prevents frizzy hair and split ends. If you are thinking of investing in a few silk pieces, you may start collecting them now.

Reasons for Celebrating Company Milestones Even if It’s Expensive

November 16, 2019

Organizing a company event or a huge party for the employees might seem unnecessary. You don’t want to splurge that amount on a single event when you can invest the money elsewhere. Before you abandon the idea, you need to understand the need to organize a corporate event, especially if it has something to do with celebrating milestones. It’s not something you do all the time, so it’s worth whatever amount you’re going to spend.

Everyone needs a break

At some point, your employees and the management team will start hating each other. It’s not because of any particular event, but due to the tasks done at work. Given how everyone sees each other all the time to discuss work-related tasks, it could be exhausting. Meeting each other to celebrate and forget about work could be a unique twist. Everyone starts seeing each other in a different light.

It’s not always about work

When you stage a corporate event, it’s also sending a message that it’s not always about work. You also take time to reward the results of hard work. You want everyone to know that you acknowledge their importance and the contribution made to the success of the company. You’re not always doing something special for the employees. It’s time that you allow them to enjoy something different once in a while.

You want people to meet each other

Some employees arrive at the office, sit at their desk, and leave when the time is up. There’s no opportunity to meet each other and get to know other employees. It’s not healthy for these employees to have no idea about the people working in another department. There needs to be a sense of cooperation and understanding. Parties and corporate events are an opportunity to talk with other employees at least.

You’re hoping to have more

You celebrate achievements because they rarely happen, but you always strive to have more successes in the future. You can also use the event as an avenue to encourage your employees to work harder so that you will have more milestones to celebrate. Allow the executives to speak and provide motivational speeches. It’s not something employees see all the time. If they understand the purpose of their hard work, they will do better.

It takes time to organize a huge corporate event, especially if it involves a lot of people. You want every detail to be perfect. You can outsource an event organizer, or you can ask some of the best people in your team to do the job. Don’t forget to hire a corporate event photographer Omaha event organizers recommend, because you’ll want to document every detail. A quality photographer will capture every special moment at the party.

Forget about how much the event will cost, if it’s going to make everyone happy and satisfied. Besides, the amount you’ll spend isn’t even on a par with how much your employees have invested in helping build the business.

5 of the Most Common Types of Malocclusion

November 14, 2019

Malocclusion is a dental condition where your teeth and bite are misaligned. More often than not the conditions are simply referred to as misaligned or crooked teeth.

Although you may not realize it, there are actually many different types of malocclusion out there. The differences between them can be quite big, and if you know what they are you should be able to easily recognize them when you see them.

Some of the most common types of malocclusion are:

  • Overcrowding

By far the most common type of malocclusion and the main reason many adults need braces is overcrowding. As the name suggests this type of malocclusion takes place when there is insufficient space for the teeth to grow out, and as a result they end up growing crooked or overlapping with other teeth.

To treat overcrowding it is sometimes necessary to remove some teeth in order to create space before realigning them with braces.

  • Overbite

It may surprise you to know this but the truth is that overbites are very common, it’s just that in most cases they are mild and do not need to be treated. However in cases where the overbite’s upper front teeth actually contact the lower gums it can cause issues and will need to be corrected.

Aside from re-aligning the teeth using braces and tooth extraction, some extreme cases of overbite may require surgery to be rectified.

  • Crossbite

In some ways a crossbite is a type of underbite, just it can happen on either side of the jaw as opposed to just the front teeth. A slight crossbite isn’t an issue, but if it is severe and other issues start to develop it will need to be addressed.

Just as with an overbite the most common type of treatment are braces and tooth extraction, but surgery may sometimes be required in extreme cases.

  • Spaced teeth

As indicated by its name, spaced teeth really just mean that there are gaps between two (or more) teeth. If it is just two teeth (and more often than not, the upper front teeth) it is referred to as diastema.

To be honest there are many potential causes of spaced teeth including a large mouth structure, small-sized teeth, missing teeth, thumb sucking, and tongue thrusting. Technically treatment isn’t necessary in most cases unless other issues develop, but many people opt to use braces to straighten them for aesthetic reasons.

  • Impacted teeth

Normally a tooth is ‘impacted’ when there isn’t enough room for it in your mouth and as a result it is unable to break through. In many cases a tooth is ‘partially impacted’ – meaning that it has broken through but only part of it can surface. If left untreated impacted teeth can increase the risk of cavities and infection, as well as end up crowding other teeth.

The treatment for impacted teeth vary, but in some cases they may need to be extracted or exposed and then corrected using braces.

Make no mistake aside from the 5 types of malocclusion listed above there are many others such as underbites, overjets, missing teeth, open bites, and so on. Despite being less common, if you suspect your alignment is off for any reason you should still make an appointment with orthodontics Bristol.

It should be noted that even in minor cases of malocclusion that don’t technically need to be corrected – there are benefits to fixing the alignment. If nothing else you’ll end up feeling a whole lot more confident in your smile if your teeth are perfectly straight, and that counts for a lot.

5 Benefits of Getting Braces and Straightening Your Teeth

November 14, 2019

People often assume that crooked or misaligned teeth are a purely cosmetic issue, but that really is not the case. The fact of the matter is that it is a condition known as malocclusion, and it can actually impact your oral health in many ways.

Suffice to say there are a lot more benefits to getting braces or clear aligners to straighten your teeth than you may realize, and some of the most important are:

  • Makes teeth easier to brush and floss

Crooked teeth are not easy to brush and floss, and more often than not there will be some areas that aren’t covered. As a result plaque will eventually build up and you’ll run the risk of cavities, gum disease, and a host of other issues.

By straightening your teeth, you’ll make them much easier to clean. That is especially true if they are no longer overcrowded, and floss can fit into the gaps more easily.

  • Allows food to be chewed more thoroughly

If your teeth are misaligned it will affect your actions when you chew food, and make it more difficult to chew it into small pieces. In fact you may end up with more food particles stuck between your teeth as a result too.

Once your teeth are straight you shouldn’t have that issue. It may help to improve your digestion too, seeing as chewing food into smaller pieces will let you digest it more quickly and easily.

  • Avoids wear and tear on teeth

Teeth that are properly aligned don’t suffer as much wear and tear when biting and chewing. If you suffer from malocclusion the distribution of stress when you bite and chew won’t be as even, and some parts of your teeth will gradually start to wear down.

Over time this can cause your teeth to chip, crack, or compromise the biting surface and make it flat. However if you fix your smile you should be able to avoid most wear and tear.

  • Reduces risk of jaw issues

In addition to straining your teeth, a bad bite can actually put more pressure on your entire jaw too – which can cause other issues. Although less common, in the long term the strain can affect the joints of your jaw and lead to jaw pain, ear aches, headaches, and so on.

Fixing the bite is the first step towards solving that problem. On top of that it will reduce the risk of your jawbone eroding due to bacteria eating into the bone.

  • Helps improve speech

Many speech impediments actually stem from malocclusion, especially if you have a lisp or you inadvertently make whistling sounds when trying to say certain words. However it should be noted that not all speech disorders are caused by malocclusion, so it is no guarantee that straightening your teeth will fix it.

Suffice to say if you have a speech impediment and suffer from malocclusion, you should visit an orthodontist and ask them if it is related.

Starting to see the benefits of straightening your teeth? At times rectifying your malocclusion could really end up being life changing – which is why you should definitely consider it carefully.

On your part you may want to go over the different types of treatment that are available, and ask your orthodontist for advice. If you’d prefer a treatment that isn’t that visible you could ask them about Invisalign Birmingham, or other subtle types of braces.

At the end of the day the best option to straighten your teeth will vary depending on many factors. That is why it is crucial that you talk to your orthodontist beforehand and know what your options are.

Understanding What Causes Dental Anxiety

November 14, 2019

Dental anxiety is very common, but its severity can vary quite a bit from one person to the next. In fact it is a lot more common than most people realize, and about 60% of people have dental anxiety while 5% to 10% have dental phobia.

While there are many ways that you can try to cope with dental anxiety, the first step that you should take is to understand the problem. It often helps if you’re able to isolate the root cause of your anxiety, and tackle it from there.

Make no mistake that may be easier said than done in some cases seeing as dental anxiety can be caused by many different triggers. That being said, some of the more common causes of dental anxiety are:

  • Previous traumatic dental experience or healthcare experience

Many cases of dental anxiety stem from a previous traumatic experience either in the dentist’s office or some other healthcare-related location. The most common is a painful experience in the past that causes a fear of pain during future dental appointments.

Although modern dental procedures may not be as painful as they were in the past, it may not help to alleviate the anxiety that is felt.

  • Embarrassment at the invasion of personal space

The anxiety that some people feel when they are going for a dental appointment stems from embarrassment due to the close physical proximity of the dentist. The fact that the dentist will be literally right in their face and staring into their mouth can make them feel as though their personal space is being invaded.

At times this problem is exacerbated feelings of shame and self-consciousness due to poor oral hygiene, bad breath, or physical appearance. That reaction can be especially pronounced for people with self-esteem issues to begin with.

  • Fear of losing control and feeling helpless

When you’re lying in the dental chair with your mouth wide open and the dentist is prodding around without you being able to see anything – it is normal to feel helpless. Many people do not like that however, and some will definitely feel anxious because of the loss of control.

In such cases one of the best ways around it is to have the dentist explain what they’re doing. Although it won’t make you feel more in control, it will at very least make you feel a little less helpless.

  • Fear of needles and injections

Lots of people are dead scared of needles and injections, and having a shot in your mouth is bound to be terrifying for them. Unfortunately it is one of the hardest fears to deal with, especially if it is a severe reaction that causes you to panic at the sight of needles.

The good news is that dentists are trained to cope with fear of needles, so if you talk to your Chester dentist they may be able to propose an alternative. If possible they may use a different type of local anesthetic instead.

Do you feel that your dental anxiety stems from one of the causes listed above? If it does then you can start to try to figure out how to address it, and if it doesn’t you should continue to look at other possibilities.

All said and done your goal should be to ensure that dental anxiety does not get in your way. The last thing that you want is for your dental anxiety to affect your oral health, and lead to issues in the long term. Simply put – you must not let your dental anxiety cause you to skip dental appointments or refuse treatment.
