Some Brilliant Tips for Upgrading and Updating Your Kitchen

September 6, 2019

C:\Users\Admin\Downloads\kitchen-2490416_1920.jpg

The best kitchen upgrade need not be an expensive or complicated affair. If you would like nothing more than to give your kitchen a bright new look, you don’t need to spend thousands of pounds just to make it happen. A few integral changes can do the trick, and if you do it right, you will have a brand-new sparkling kitchen look and feel in no time. So, what can you do to make your kitchen a better place in the home for everyone? More functional, more charming, and trendier and more modern, besides? Here are some brilliant tips for upgrading and updating your kitchen.

  • Black and navy are in

Black is a colour which has long been associated with sophistication, and rightly so. Black isn’t just on-trend for bathrooms, however – it is also a great colour choice for a sleek, modern kitchen. Darker colour palettes are a big trend for the home this year, with more homeowners looking for darker and more striking interiors, even in the kitchen. If you want some great contrast in your black-themed kitchen, you can pair it with coffee brown, various grey shades, and beige.

Navy is another colour which is a big hit nowadays, and it is quite versatile as a colour since it matches well with other colours, especially neutral ones.

  • Bespoke and customised storage solutions

Bespoke and customised storage solutions are also in, and a lot of kitchen upgrades are now made with high cupboards which reach up to the ceiling as well as tall cabinet units and overhead cabinetry. These not only offer excellent storage for a wide range of kitchen items, but they also add height to the kitchen, whether you have a small or large one.

  • Open shelves and reed glass cabinetry

Open shelves are also a big thing this year and combined with reed glass cabinetry make for a great look to any kitchen. You can accentuate your kitchen’s overall look by displaying quirky and unique objects on the open shelves, or you can make the shelves entirely functional with cookbooks, crockery, and ingredients. Reed glass is also a great choice if you want to add texture to your kitchen, and it goes well with natural materials. And since the glass comes as a semi-opaque glass, you can still place various contents without letting all your visitors know what you have in your cupboards.

  • Single slab splashbacks

It’s true that splashbacks are inherently practical, serving to protect your kitchen’s walls. But they are now becoming more decorative as well, and some designers are even using them as unique focal points or centrepieces for any kitchen. Splashbacks as a single slab are similar in concept to a feature wall or a single wallpapered section of your bedroom or living room, and these are not only practical and useful but also elegant and chic. For an even more beautiful splashback, go for one with a unique pattern or colour, such as the splashbacks made of granite, marble, or quartz from www.jrstone.co. With a single slab splashback, you can make your kitchen easier to clean as you no longer have to deal with grouting, which comes with tiles.

  • Beautiful taps

Taps are, of course, a necessity for any kitchen sink or basin, but they are getting a lot more attention today as well. Lots of homeowners are going for beautiful taps, which can also serve as a feature in their kitchen. There is now a broad variety of materials, styles, and finishes when it comes to taps, and you can even take it up a notch by choosing taps with features such as instant boiling water, sparkling water or filtered water, and pot or sink fillers.

8 Things You Should Know Before Booking a Trip to Montreal

September 3, 2019

Montreal is popular for its European flair and mix of French and Anglo culture. Montreal is a great city to visit if you want to feel like you’re on a completely different continent, while still feeling like home. However, Montreal is a very unique city, and one you’ll have to be prepared for if you want to have a good time. You also have to be prepared for some culture shock as well if you aren’t familiar with city. Here are a few things you should know before you come to Montreal.

There are Tons of Cheap Flights to the City

If you’re coming from the East Coast or the North-Midwest, know that there are tons of cheap flights to Montreal coming into the city. You could book flights to Montreal with a regional airline like Porter and get a great deal on your next trip. You’ll get the chance to get better seats than you usually get through a national airline, and their flights are much less crowded as well.

Montreal is Actually French

While it’s true that you won’t have trouble finding someone who speaks English in the city and that a large portion of the population is bilingual, don’t be fooled. Montreal is a French city first. While you will notice a lot of bilingual signs, there’s nothing that obligates businesses to offer service in English or signage. So, don’t be surprised if you can’t get service in English either, especially in the east end of the city.

However, there is also a clear demarcation between the unofficial French and English side of the city. The city is pretty much split in half by St-Laurent street, and the more you go west, the more English the city gets. So, you won’t have issues getting service on the west end, though it would be wise to learn some basic French words for signage if you want to get around the city.

The City Has a Great Public Transit System

If you’re staying on the island, you’ll have no problem getting around the city. Montreal has an extensive subway system, or the Metro as it is called, that covers most of the city. It’s also very safe and reliable and will get you pretty much anywhere in the city in minutes.

In addition, you have tons of self-service options as well. The city offers easily accessible bikes for rental all over the city and they’re pretty affordable. You can also rent electric bikes and scooters in most areas of the city.

Forget Turning on Reds

While in most of the country, you can turn right on red lights, Montreal is one of the only major cities where you can’t. So, don’t make the mistake of turning on a red light or you might get a ticket, or a warning depending on the agent. Note, however, that you can turn right in most municipalities outside of Montreal proper.

Speaking of red lights, don’t be surprised if you see people walking straight through them. People will usually cross on red lights if there are no cars, so this could be a shock for some. Also, pedestrians and cyclists are kings in Montreal and have priority rights when crossing the street, and they fully take advantage of it. People are also more likely to jaywalk, so be prepared for that as well.

The Festivals

If you’re thinking of coming in the summer, make sure that you visit at the beginning of the summer season. Montreal lives through its festivals, and they’re one of the major attractions to the city.

The season starts with the Francofolies that take part at the beginning of June. This festival is focused on French culture and features mainly francophone artists. This is a great opportunity to learn a bit about French culture and have fun with the whole family. This is followed by the Montreal Jazz Festival, which is one of the biggest of its genre in the world. Tons of artists from around the world come to perform on one of the many stages right in the “Quartier des Spectacle” which is an area of the city dedicated solely to outside shows and festivals.

Though it’s called the Jazz festival however, there are artists across all genres there, so you’ll be able to find something that is more your speed there no matter your preferred style of music.

The Jazz festival is followed by the Just for Laughs Festival, which is the single biggest comedy festival in the world and attracts the world’s biggest comics. Every year, top performers come to perform free and paid shows at some of the city’s top venues. Some of the most popular comics had their first big break there, such as Jerry Seinfeld and Dave Chapelle. The streets are also animated with street performers and dancers. This is the most family friendly of all the festivals and also takes place in the Quartier des Spectacles.

Winters are Something Else

Winters can be bitterly cold in Montreal, so unless you’re used to it, you’ll be in for a shock. It’s not uncommon for temperatures to dip under the -40 degrees mark, so be prepared for that. On the flipside, summers are notoriously hot in Montreal, and tend to be more humid, so you should be prepared for this as well.

Montreal however is a great place if you’re into winter sports, and you’re only a few minutes away from some of the best slopes you’ll find on the East Coast. There’s also the Igloofest, which is a mega electronic festival that takes place dead in the middle of winter.

Montreal’s Past as Canada’s Sin City

Montrealers and Quebecers in general have a different attitude towards sex than in most other places in Canada and North America, so this could come as a shock for some people. Some parts of the city can be a bit seedy at night, so make sure that you know which areas to avoid. Strip clubs are also front and centre on important strips, so that’s something you’ll have to be prepared for as well.

With that being said however, Montreal remains one of the safest cities in North America, so you’ll feel safe in most parts of the city, even after dark.

Legal Drinking Age

You should also know that the drinking age is 18 in Montreal and in Quebec, so be prepared to see a lot of college kids strolling down St-Laurent street. Also, know that beer in Quebec tends to be a bit stronger than in the rest of Canada or in the States, so try to look for light beers if you’re looking for something that is closer to what you’d get back home. Also, know that the city has a strong micro brewery scene and history as a brewing city, so make sure that you visit at least one on your next visit and sample some of the best beers the city has to offer.

Montreal is a wonderful city, and one that begs to be discovered. Make sure that you keep these tips in mind on your next visit if you want to make the most of it.

Guide to Cost and Features of Handyman Insurance

August 29, 2019

There are no requirements for you to have any kind of insurance if you are a handyman. As a business owner, it is so important that you consider the overall risk and that you also make a decision as to what policy you feel comfortable taking out. General liability, business equipment, commercial auto and even worker’s compensation are just some of the few policies that you should be looking at.

General Liability

If you are a handyman, then you should be concerned about the protection of your client’s property. You should also be wary of their health and any pets that they have. If something was to go wrong or if someone gets injured, then you need to have the peace of mind knowing that they are going to be protected. General liability insurance will usually cover you for any work that has been completed by subcontractors, or even any damage that’s done to the properties that you work in. If you don’t end up completing any work that you promised you would then handyman cover will also protect you in this instance too. The biggest risk that handymen face are disability claims that result from the work that has been done, so make sure that you take this into account when choosing your policy. Your handyman insurance cost will largely depend on the type of cover you take out and how much protection you want.

Worker’s Compensation

If you take out worker’s compensation cover then this will cover, you for any medical bills and it will also cover your team at work too. This will give you some degree of protection if you are not able to work and it is ideal if you have a number of people who work for you. Worker’s compensation will cover you for any medical bills that you have and it can also pay for prescriptions, rehab, missed wages and more.

Commercial Auto Insurance

Commercial auto insurance will cover you for any vehicles that you have. It will also cover you for theft, damages and even accidents too. You should note that not every single handyman needs to have this kind of cover. If you have a car or truck that is registered as being a commercial vehicle then you should think about taking it out. If you have a personal car that you use then you’ll probably be fine, but do make sure that you have business use listed under the policy that you have.

Equipment Protection

As a handyman, you need your tools to do your job. This type of cover will protect you if you ever need to fix or even replace the tools that get lost or damaged as the result of theft or vandalism. You will need to pay a deductible for this but either way, you can rest assured knowing that you are covered and that you are going to have your tools paid for if they are lost, damaged or even stolen. There are some limits with this, so look into them before you start paying for any kind of policy.

Survival Guide to a Monte Carlo Fundraiser

August 27, 2019

So you’ve recently received a surprising and somehow peculiar invitation in the mail and you had to read it a few times to understand exactly what it said. An invitation to a “Monte Carlo Fundraiser” or “Casino Night charity” event (?). As much as you love charities, you probably have no idea such a thing as charity for casinos even existed. And it’s not really what it sounds like – so what’s the deal?

Don’t worry, this is the guide that will take you through your next Monte Carlo Night!

Accept or Not

If you are a passionate gambler who never misses out on a chance to play, you are probably already getting ready to RSVP and worry about the rest of the details later. But what if your not? Perhaps you’re even against gaming for money, then what do you do? First of all, you continue reading this article because as you will learn, these events are all about fundraising and not about gambling. So accept.

Another reason for hesitation can be If you have never played a casino game in your life. In that case, your head is probably spinning from all the confusion. Should you decline the invitation simply because you do not know how to gamble? No! But you probably want to know the answer to a few questions so let us explain.

2. What’s The Big Thing?

As a novice to the idea of casino fundraiser events, you wouldn’t be the first one thinking someone was actually inviting you to go to Monte Carlo and gamble to show your support for a good cause. But that’s not the case. Nothing to feel embarrassed about if you already packed your bags but these events are actually named the way they are because they bring together guests around the theme of a fun gambling experiences, much like the ones at a brick-and-mortar casino. However, instead of going to Sin City or Monte Carlo, these gambling jewels come to them.

3. Clearing Out The (Money) Confusion

So, it’s a casino theme combined with fundraising. Will people expect you to gamble and win money you will then donate to a good cause? No.

Your donation is done buy paying for the event ticket. This is how it works:

Each guest (that would be you, as per your invitation) will either pay in advance for the event ticket, and/or make a donation in order to enter the event. In return you will be given a number of chips in exchange for the entry fee. The chips will be used to play the guest’s favorite casino games during the event. It is usually possible to make an additional donation by buying extra chips, in case you run out of them during gameplay. The format of the event and the “house rules” issued by the host (usually on display at the event or written on the invitation) will decide whether you are allowed to buy more chips or not.

So, while you can expect real casino game tables and dealers, similar to the ones found in real casinos, you will be playing with fake money. Yes, this means you will not win any cash.

4. Is It Legal?

Yes, to organize and to participate in a Monte Carlo Fundraiser (Casino Night Event) is legal as no real money are allowed around the table games. IF you attend an event and you see people betting real cash around the table games, then it’s not a legally organized event.

5. Gamble or Not?

You don’t have to gamble and there are always guests that don’t. However, many do use the opportunity as it’s all about the fun. We admit, joining the crowd around a table can feel a bit intimidating for newbies who never set foot inside a casino, or never played a game of roulette. No one is expecting you to know how to play these games, and it’s perfectly acceptable if you don’t want to. Still, to get the most out of the fun, you may want to familiarize yourself with some basic rules before the event. Today there are many websites online that allow you to play table games for free without being a paying customer at an online casino.

6. What To Wear

Cocktail or black-tie attire are usually mandatory during these events. Check the details in your invitation to know what is the exact dress code and follow it. Do not hesitate to engage in conversation with other guests – you are expected to socialize. Also, help yourself from the dining and wining corner; just make sure you respect the social norms for public or private events.

7. Against Gambling – Why Attend?

Because it’s for a good cause! Again, no real money gambling takes place during these fundraisers so even if you are against gambling, you do a good cause just by attending and non of the guests will be involved in any real money gambling. There really is no reason not to attend.

While you will get the chance to play real casino games supervised by real dealers and croupiers, you will not be actually wagering any real money. This is the main difference between genuine casino gambling and casino fundraisers. While the fun and excitement are still there, you can shake off the thought that you could lose any money. The whole idea is to use “funny casino money” and chips that have absolutely no cash value for pure entertainment – while making your own contribution to a noble cause. So even if you are not the best gambler in the room or if you are a complete novice when it comes to casinos, you can still attend the event, have fun and come home with more peace of mind at the end of the night. You can also choose not to do any gambling if you do not wish to, and exchange your chips for a prize during the raffle.

8. You Can Still Win Interesting Prizes

Besides the gratitude of the hosts and the charities that you have helped, most of the organizers of these events will not let you go home empty handed. It can either be a small gift or fun prize to all guests or a more valuable prize to the winner of the event (the guest with most chips left at the end of the event). The prize cannot be cash or gift cards, but fine bottles of wine, weekend getaways to exotic locations or new smart TVs can all up for wins.

In anticipation of the big casino charity event you have been invited to, we hope these few pointers have answered all of your questions. Now it’s time to get dressed!

Top 5 Reasons to Retire in North Carolina

August 24, 2019

While many people don’t start thinking about retirement until it’s right around the corner, there are quite a few that decide early where they want to live when work is done, the kids are grown, and they have reached that golden age. Everyone knows how important it is to plan for retirement early, so considering where you want to retire to should be one of the top priorities on your list.

That’s where finding North Carolina land for sale and retiring to NC comes in. If you’re thinking about settling down in this gorgeous state of mountains and beaches but still aren’t quite sure it’s the right choice for you, read on below for a few of the top reasons that retiring in NC is the right way to go.

Four distinct and gorgeous seasons

When moving to another state, you should first look at the seasons that state has. For instance Florida has one or two seasons, where as North Carolina has four distinct seasons to recommend it. From summer at the beaches to gorgeous flowers in the spring, this is the place to move if you want to experience all that nature has to offer. The best of the seasons in our humble opinion is fall however, when the gold and red leaves coloring the trees and fluttering on the ground will simply take your breath away. (Just make sure you find a reliable and reputable residential pest control company to keep your new rustic home or log cabin free of pests, as there are different types that come out in every season.)

The cost of living is reasonably low

North Carolina boasts below average cost-of-living figures in the United States, and when you’re on a fixed income, that’s an important thing to consider. Having to pay less for housing and other essentials will leave you more money to get out and explore all of the unique and wonderful things this picturesque state has to offer.

Breathtaking mountains

From the Appalachian Trail and the Great Smoky Mountain region to the Blue Ridge Parkway, if you love the mountains, you’re in for a treat. There are small communities within these ranges that might make the perfect home for your retirement. Whether you want an active retirement with skiing and socialization or the solitude of a mountain cabin with snow piling up outside and a mug of coffee and a book in hand, you can find it in the North Carolina mountains.

A rich history to be told

If you’re a history buff, then your retirement will never be boring in North Carolina. From the state’s Civil War battlefields to its rich colonial heritage, there is always a museum to visit or a story to be heard about North Carolina’s history. You can even have the grandkids come for a visit, and give them a little bit of an education at the same time.

The food is unique

North Carolina has some truly unique Southern food to offer. Starting with the iconic Carolina barbecue and moving on to the fresh and succulent seafood from the low country, you will never go hungry throughout the state. And don’t forget to sample some famous homestyle cooking as well, such as baked beans, Southern-style fried chicken, and biscuits and gravy.

These are just a few of the reasons that North Carolina is an ideal place to retire when you’re done working and ready to fully enjoy life. From the ample land for sale and the beauty of seasonal change to the delicious food and the awe-inspiring mountain ranges, there is nothing that isn’t amazing about retiring in North Carolina.

5 Tips for Negotiating a Deal on a New Construction Home

August 22, 2019

A new construction is an excellent way to get a beautiful home full of the latest features, appliances and building techniques. Whether you’re involved in the design choices or purchasing an as-is new construction, here are five tips to negotiate a deal on new homes for sale in Venice CA.

1. Avoid Emotional Reactions

Perhaps the most difficult part of negotiation is to avoid emotional reactions. This is particularly true when purchasing a new construction, since you are working with a business rather than an individual. Although the asking price might be a major financial investment for you, the construction company may have dozens of similar homes, so they have far less invested in the outcome of this particular deal. Look for a quality real estate agent and reliable lender to help you put on a poker face and negotiate without emotion.

2. Don’t Fall in Love Too Soon

A common pitfall when looking at real estate is to fall in love with a house, regardless of the price. If you fall in love too soon with your favorite new construction location or building design, you may end up paying far more than you expected. If certain features of your negotiation aren’t working to your advantage, you need to be willing to leave the deal and look for a better option elsewhere.

3. Ask for Upgrades

Before you walk away, however, try to change tactics. Once you negotiate down to their lowest price point, ask for a few upgrades on the project. Builders have access to a wide range of appliances and other building materials, so premium carpeting, luxury fixtures and the latest appliances may cost them a fraction of the asking price. A building contractor may be far more willing to throw in a $5,000 kitchen cabinet upgrade than to take $5,000 off the asking price.

This is a great way to reach a compromise in terms of price. Upgrades are a low-cost solution for the builder, but also give you added value to your new home. You can get the luxury items you need and still stay within the builder’s price range.

4. Check Out Finished Homes

While you may be in love with the idea of a new construction, be willing to look at finished homes. There’s a few advantages to viewing finished homes. First, you can find out if the features that you think you’ll love in a new construction are actually practical. Second, you’ll have a better sense of the value of your new construction, which gives you more negotiating power. Finally, finished homes can be more affordable and come with a more firm price point, since a new build has a lot of unknown costs for builders.

5. Work With an Experienced Realtor

Take the stress out of house hunting with an experienced, licensed realtor. Whether negotiating with a builder on a new construction project or looking to purchase a finished property from an individual, work with the best Santa Monica realtors for local, professional expertise on all your options. Negotiate with confidence and get all the latest information on new builds in your area.

Do your homework

Having a smooth and trouble-free travelling experience usually hinges on the amount of preparation done before the trip. As such, it makes sense to research first regarding the city or country that you plan to visit. From available accommodation to attractions, time spent doing your homework now will help not only allow you to familiarise yourself with the destination before you arrive but also help you avoid confusion while exploring a new locale.

Acquire travel insurance

It’s not uncommon for travel insurance to slip our minds while planning a trip; however, it’s crucial to obtain the necessary coverage. After all, we can never tell what can happen during the trip. And by acquiring the necessary travel insurance from ucompare.ie, not only will you have the peace of mind that you’ll have the right coverage but you will also keep yourself from spending more than you need.

Don’t forget to check the weather

There’s no denying that the weather can affect the overall experience of your trip. As such, it makes sense to check the conditions first before setting a date for when you plan to leave. In this way, you’re far less likely to encounter unfavourable weather patterns during the course of your trip, and as a result, have a much more enjoyable experience.

Check the attractions and entertainment listings

Apart from getting some rest and relaxation from the trials and tribulations of daily life, people travel to experience new cultures and explore unfamiliar locales. And because of this, it’s crucial to check local attractions and entertainment listings first. In doing so, you will have a clear idea of what to do once you arrive at your intended destination. More importantly, you will also avoid the hassle of making last-minute changes to your itinerary too.

Reach out to family or friends

If you have any family or friends who live in the intended destination, try to reach out to them. After all, they’re bound to know more about the place that you plan to visit since they live there. And by getting in touch with them, not only will it be easier for you to navigate the unfamiliar surroundings of the country or city that you’re visiting, but you might even get free accommodation in the process too.

No matter what our reasons are for travelling, we all do it for the same purpose: fun and relaxation. And with careful planning and preparation, not only are you far less likely to encounter any problems but you’ll maximise the enjoyment of the experience as well.

Throwing a Surprise Party Your Teen Will Never Forget

August 17, 2019

It’s a psychological fact that teens come to a point where they need to push their parents away. It’s not pleasant, but it’s part of the process they need to discover who they are and prepare to leave the nest. This doesn’t mean you should give up. While it’s good to give them some space to grow, making them a priority means more to them than they’ll let on. Throwing your teen a surprise party can be a great way to celebrate them. Just try to keep the mushy stuff to a minimum in front of their friends, and use some of these simple tips.

Don’t “forget” her birthday

You might be tempted to act as if you’ve forgotten her birthday leading up to the big day. That way, she’ll be so much more surprised when she finds out you actually remembered. But the truth is, she’ll be expecting something and acting like you forgot will just make her suspicious. Do your best to keep the planning under wraps, but discuss things about her birthday just as you do every year. For example, ask her where she’d like to go for her birthday dinner or what kind of cake she’d like. Keep things as normal as possible.

Enlist the help of her friends

Sadly enough for most parents, teens tend to lean on their friends more than anyone else during this time of life. No matter how well you think you know your teen, her friends probably know her a lot better. That’s why it’s important to include her closest ones in the planning process. For one thing, they can probably tell you whether a surprise party is even a good idea for your teenager. Some will be mortified at the idea of having all the attention on them, while others will lavish it. For another thing, your teen’s friends can help you plan and invite guests. They know who she likes and who she’d want at the party. You can even get them to help with the shopping and decorating.

Add lots of personal touches

The party is a way to celebrate your teen, so find a way to make her stand out. Print out some photos of her and her friends from Facebook to scatter around the party areas. You can lay these randomly on the tables with the food, frame some to hang on the walls, or even make T-shirts with her picture on them. These ideas will, of course, depend on your own teen’s personality and how she responds to being the center of attention.

Record the memory

Don’t let the party go by without finding a way to capture the day. Check into photo booth rental NYC to set up an area where friends can pose together for fun keepsakes. Themed props are a great addition and make photos more memorable, and you can create keepsakes from the images once the party’s over. These could be photo books for the birthday girl and all her guests, framed prints, or just uploaded albums for everyone to share.

Don’t forget the gifts

No matter how well you plan your teen’s party, she’ll still expect a gift. Remind her of how special she is to your family and make your gifts personal. A good example is a piece of jewelry she can keep forever. This can be from you alone or from your entire family. You might even consider finding bracelets for sisters for your daughters with close birthdays. The point is to keep her personality and interests in mind to let her know how much you care.
